Too Young
Perry Como Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Too young to really be in love
They say that love's a word
A word we've only heard
But can't begin to know the meaning of
And yet, we're not too young to know
This love will last though years may go
That we were not too young at all
And yet, we're not too young to know
This love will last though years may go
And then, someday they may recall
We were not too young at all
In Perry Como's song "Too Young," the singer is addressing the doubts and criticisms of those who claim that he and his partner are too young to truly understand or experience love. Despite these naysayers, the singer asserts that their love is real and enduring. The repeated phrase "too young" serves as a refrain throughout the song, emphasizing the singer's determination to prove these skeptics wrong.
The lyrics suggest that the singer and their partner understand that their love may face challenges as time goes on, but they are confident that it will endure. This theme is emphasized by the line "This love will last though years may go." In the final verse, the singer imagines a future where those who doubted their love will come to realize that they were not too young after all.
Overall, "Too Young" is a romantic, optimistic song that celebrates the power of love to transcend age and skepticism. The repetition of the phrase "too young" creates a sense of defiance against those who would seek to undermine the singer's relationship, and the final verse suggests that true love will eventually win out in the face of doubt and adversity.
