Freeway
Perry Linda Lyrics

In the garden
Watering flowers all night long
Taking care of what you neglected
And I do it with a happy song
Can you feel your guardian angel
And you wonder if you're in heaven
'Cause you move so gracefully
Welcome tomorrow
Where we flow us gently
Didn't we know
Didn't we feel it
The time to seems to stop
Outside our window
And we ride, down the freeway
Hoping to express our religion
To be free
Of everything
With my friends, sitting around drinking
Talking about how life is much too long
How some days everything's just so right
And the next day everything just seems so wrong
Laughing while complaining
But having a good time
It didn't really matter
Welcome tomorrow
Where we flow us gently
At two O'Clock in the morning
The lights go on
It's time for us to go
And the last thing I can remember,
Was an angel guiding us right through the door
Yeah, Yeah
Laughing while complaining
But having a good time
It didn't really matter
It really doesn't matter
Welcome tomorrow
Where we flow us gently
Didn't we know
Didn't we feel it
The time to seems to stop
Outside our window
And we ride, down the freeway
Hoping to express our religion
Didn't we know
Didn't we feel it
The time to seems to stop
Outside our window
And we run down the freeway
Didn't we know
Didn't we feel it
How time it seems to stop
Outside our window
And we run, down the freeway
Hoping to express our religion
To be free, Of everyt
The first verse of “Freeway” by Perry Linda establishes a pastoral scene where the singer appears to be taking care of a garden. The garden appears to be a metaphor for something that the singer is putting effort into, that has been neglected by someone else. Against the backdrop of the neglectful person, the singer does their work happily and with a song. In the second verse, the singer turns their focus to the listener, describing a “guardian angel” that guides them patiently, so gracefully that the listener may well be in heaven. The positive attitude and the focus on the joys of life are heightened by the chorus, which talks about “riding down the freeway” in order to “express our religion” and be “free of everything”.
The following verses are more personal, with the singer and friends drinking late at night and discussing life, which sometimes feels too long and others where everything is just right. They laugh and complain, but the sadness is not profound, and they end up having a good time anyway. The last section of the song repeats the chorus, closing with the same image of running down the freeway. The chorus is the most important part of this song, as it circles back to the message that everything that is being done is in order to be free of everything.
