Yorn started as a drummer who also played guitar. In 1990, he was drumming for his band in a high school talent contest when someone suggested he sing the Replacements song "Talent Show." That went over so well, a competing band asked him to sing Neil Young’s "Rockin' In the Free World" with them.
He was first recognized when the Farrelly brothers picked "Strange Condition" for their film Me, Myself & Irene.
He has gained increasing popularity following the use of his song "Just Another" on popular WB television show Dawson's Creek.
Another of his songs, Murray was used in the credits of the film Igby Goes Down
The song "Undercover" was used in the first Spiderman movie and appears on the soundtrack.
The song "Lose You" was used in the closing of an episode of House on Fox.

I could still be strong
For us tonight
I know it will get hard
But I won't run away
I'll figure it out
Just stay close
Wait for the sun
All this innocence
That we've come to miss
Will make us stronger
I don't have the time to go back in time
I already lived it
Just stay close
Wait for the sun
Learn to live this life, learn to get along
Just stay close wait for the stars
Until they realign just like the first time
With all we've come to know we work so hard for what?
I don't wanna miss it
Just stay close
Wait for the sun
Learn to live this life
Learn to get along
Just stay close wait for the stars
Until they realign just like the first time
The first time
The song "Close" by Pete Yorn is a reflective piece that speaks to the need for perseverance and resolve in the face of uncertainty. The opening lines, "Hey what's going on? I could still be strong, For us tonight" suggest that there is a sense of tension in the air. However, the singer asserts that they will not run away from the challenge, and that they will "figure it out" with their partner by their side. The refrain "Just stay close" creates a sense of solidarity and togetherness that is essential to overcoming the obstacles ahead.
The second verse reveals that the "innocence" of the past is something that the singer and their partner have "come to miss." This could refer to a loss of naivety or idealism that often comes with experience, but the singer suggests that these experiences have made them "stronger." The lines "I don't have the time to go back in time, I already lived it" point to the idea that dwelling on the past can be detrimental, and that moving forward is the only option.
The chorus repeats the admonition to "just stay close" and emphasizes the need to persevere and "learn to get along" in order to live life to the fullest. The final line "just like the first time" suggests that the singer wants to recapture the joy and wonder of the early days of their relationship.
Overall, "Close" is a song that acknowledges the challenges of life but asserts the need for hope and optimism in the face of these challenges. The refrain "just stay close" creates a sense of solidarity and togetherness, while the repeated emphasis on perseverance and learning to "get along" highlights the importance of working through difficulties and building a strong relationship.
