Le Crique
Peter Bjorn and John Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Stranger than strange,
Carpets moving me around, for the first time
This is what I found
Drawing by numbers and still not understanding any of it
This is what I found, moving me around

Try to lay down, breathing slow,
Gasping for air and raising a dust
I got bored before

Now theres a difference, new brand of motivation
Moving me around, saftey net pulled down

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Peter Bjorn and John's song Le Crique seem to evoke a sense of confusion and disorientation. The first line, "Stranger than strange," immediately sets the stage for something out of the ordinary. The following line, "Carpets moving me around, for the first time," adds to this sense of disorientation- it's almost as if the ground beneath the singer is shifting and moving, causing them to feel unbalanced. The next line, "This is what I found," seems to suggest that the singer is actively searching for something, and the movement of the carpets is leading them to some sort of discovery.

The next line, "Drawing by numbers and still not understanding any of it," further emphasizes the singer's confusion- they are attempting to make sense of something (the "drawing by numbers"), but are still not able to comprehend it. This sense of frustration and confusion continues in the repetition of "This is what I found, moving me around." It seems like the singer is trapped in some sort of cycle- they keep searching and moving, but they are not making any real progress.
