Let's Call It Off
Peter Bjorn and John Lyrics

Uh, when did you get like this?
Least you could've done is gone and give me a warning
I don't regret like this
So I'll be right there when you wake up in the morning
Saying, "This just ain't my style"
You can't say you're happy either
You don't even smile, for me, ah
Did you agree, we should let it be
And did you agree, it's a must
Let's call the whole thing off
We just have had enough of us
Let's call the whole thing off
We just have had enough of us

When you decided to knock on my door
Did you remember what happened before?
The look on your face said you were expecting more
But some things look better inside of the store

Did you agree, we should let it be
And did you agree, it's a must
Let's call the whole thing off
We just have had enough of us
Let's call the whole thing off
We just have had enough of us

Look, leave me, leave me, I can't fucking stand you
Wish I had the courage to say everything I planned to
My girlfriend, my girlfriend, call herself my girlfriend
Tell me that we 'posed to be together 'til the world end
But, I don't really feel that
I just really wanna turn the wheels back
Give you all your sweaters and your heels back
Convince you that time will heal that
Uh, you look for reasons for us to argue
I swear every time I call, you just tell me how I don't call you
Why you do that? Do that, do that, yeah

Did you agree, we should let it be
And did you agree, it's a must
Let's call the whole thing off
We just have had enough of us

Let's call the whole thing off
We just have had enough of us

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Let's Call It Off" by Peter Bjorn and John speaks to a relationship that has run its course. From the beginning, it's clear that something has changed as the singer asks, "When did you get like this?" indicating that he doesn't recognize the person his partner has become. The singer expresses that he wants out of this relationship and would have appreciated a warning, but he is unable to regret what he is feeling now. He's given up on the smile and the happiness that used to be evident in their relationship. The singer continues to say that they have had enough of each other, indicating that the two have become sick of their relationship and need to end it.

The chorus of the song suggests that both the singer and his partner agree that it's time to call it quits, as they have been through enough. They have tried to make things work, but it's time to move on. In the second verse, the singer's partner comes knocking on his door, but he already knows what the outcome is going to be. The singer feels that his partner is just going through the motions, hoping for a different result but failing to realize that some things don't change. The singer wishes he had the courage to say everything he had planned to - he wants to end it and return each other's belongings. He points out that his partner constantly looks for reasons to argue and brings up that they don't spend enough time together. In the end, both parties appear to be in agreement - it's time to move on.

When you decided to knock on my door
Did your remember what happened before?
It just didn't sparkle, it just didn't grow
Somethings are better inside of the store

Did you agree we should let it be?
And did you agree, it's a must

Let's call the whole thing off
We just have had enough of us
Let's call the whole thing off
We just have had enough of us

I know many people who met the same way
Relations that lasted for more then one day
But I don't wanna know why we couldn't do more
Somethings are better to leave unexplored

Did you agree we should let it be?
And did you agree, it's a must

Let's call the whole thing off
We just have had enough of us
Let's call the whole thing off
We just have had enough of us

Let's call the whole thing off
We just have had enough of us
Let's call the whole thing off
We just have had enough of us

This song is a good one for individuals trying to overcome alcohol addiction, if one interprets his references/what he is talking about as a personification of alcohol.

The nostalgia on this is intense for me. Takes me back to 2007 and my early 20's, there was so much great indie music going around and this song and album was fresh then and still today. One of my favorites.

GlimmerAndGold

Dreamy and beautiful, with the typical melancholy, self-conscious indie rock sound of the mid-2000s. A nice blast to the past. Makes me feel sad listening to this.

Thanks for posting. This is my favorite version of this track.

Jason Voorhees

this is the version that the radio played back in the day. I had this on a mix cd and lost it.
