Born in 1954 in Hanover Parish, Jamaica, in the early 1970s, he decided to moved to Kingston to find work. There he found himself among reggae artists and musicians such as Gregory Isaacs, Bingy Bunny, Errol Holt and others who worked in the Jamaican music industry at the time.
Peter Broggs sang and recorded sporadically during the 1970s, and his music was mostly about the Rastafari movement. His debut album Progressive Youth, was released in 1979. One song recorded at this time was "Jah Golden Throne", recorded at the Channel One Studios and King Tubby studios, and released in the UK on the short-lived Selena imprint in 1980. His Rastafari Liveth! album was the first release on RAS Records, in 1982. On his 1990 album Reasoning he was backed by The Wailers and Roots Radics. In 2000 he released Jah Golden Throne, a collaboration with Jah Warrior.
Broggs suffered a stroke on 27 August 2004, and this left him paralyzed on the right side and hardly able to speak. The album Igzabihir Yakal was released in 2005; the album has been recorded with Dubcreator at the DC Studio for sound system team King Shiloh in Amsterdam in 2002 and the profit from this album went to help pay Broggs' medical bills.
Broggs died on 19 December 2015, aged 63.
Leggo Mi Hand

Leggo off of me hand, Mr. Cop.
Leggo me hand, leggo me hand,
Leggo off of me hand, Babylon.
Smoking this stuff of herb, I don't see what I'm doing
Wrong.
I'm only getting a good meditation, to spread my love
All over the world.
Say you a-can we go a station.
Yes you a-come and a-hold upon me hand,
Say you a-can we go a station.
Leggo me hand, leggo me hand,
Leggo off of me hand, Mr. Cop.
Leggo me hand, leggo me hand,
Leggo off of me hand, Babylon.
Jah made the herb for the healing of the nation,
And you're fighting against
What Jah put on this creation.
Can you make this little seed of herb,
Can you make this little seed of herb,
And you're fighting against
What Jah put on this creation.
And you a-come and a-hold upon me hand,
Say you a-can we go a station.
And you a-come and a-hold upon me hand,
Say you a-can we go a station.
Yes you a-come and a-hold upon me hand,
Say you a-can we go a station.
Leggo me hand, leggo me hand,
Leggo off of me hand, Mr. Cop.
Leggo me hand, leggo me hand,
Leggo off of me hand, Babylon.
Leggo, leggo leggo
Leggo off of me hand Mr. Cop.
Leggo leggo leggo
Leggo off of me hand Babylon.
Leggo me hand, leggo me hand,
Leggo off of me hand, Mr. Cop.
The lyrics of Peter Broggs's "Leggo Mi Hand" speak about the clash between individuals who use marijuana for meditation and creativity, and law enforcement who consider it an illegal substance. The singer is smoking herb, which he sees as a way to get into a deeper state of meditation and spread love around the world. However, a police officer tries to arrest him, and the singer resists, asking the cop to let go of his hand, repeating the phrase "leggo mi hand" several times throughout the song.
The phrase "leggo mi hand" means "let go of my hand" in Jamaican patois. The repetitive use of the phrase emphasizes the singer's resistance to being controlled by the police.
The lyrics also mention Jah, a term for God in Rastafarian belief. The singer asserts that Jah made the herb for the healing of the nation and the police are fighting against what Jah has created. This could be interpreted as an argument for the legalization of marijuana to promote its potential health benefits.
Overall, the song is a commentary on the conflict between personal freedom and the law, and how a seemingly benign substance can stir up such passionate arguments.
