Just Another Day
Peter White & Basia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's just another, just another day It's just another, just another day
There's no place that I want to be No one that I want to see
Nothing that inspires me Now that you're far away It's just another day
I'd like to walk, but there's no place to go
The hours in a day go by so slow If any wish I made came true I would wish my way to you
Time alone won't see me through Seems like I'm here to stay
Just another day It's just another, just another day (as I'm watching the lonely hours slowly slip away)
It's just another, just another day (if only you could hear the words I cannot say)
Tell me am I to undo Everything I feel for you Oh, after all that we've been through How could you walk away Like it's just another day

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Peter White & Basia's song "Just Another Day" express the singer's feeling of unworthiness and emptiness following the departure of someone they love. The persona describes the day as just another day, and although they wish to walk, there is nowhere to go. The time goes slowly, and they feel stuck in the void left behind by the person they love. The singer admits that they are not inspired by anything, and no one is worth seeing, now that their significant other is far away. They long to be with them and wish their way to them.

The lyrics also contain a sense of disbelief and pain as the person wonders how they could just walk away, leaving them feeling like it's just another day. The persona expresses a desire to undo everything they have for the person as they ponder how they ended up here. The song’s chorus repeats the phrase "it's just another day" as the hours slip away, emphasizing how repetitive and monotonous life has become without their significant other. The song's overall message is an emotional expression of the pain of losing someone loved and the hopelessness and emptiness that follow.

@BigTex347

I first heard Peter White playing guitar with Al Stewart in "Year of The Cat" in 1976 and I HAD to know who that was playing that guitar. I must have worn a hole in the record playing that album over and over, just mezmorized by every note that he played on each song on that album. He is, and always will be, a MAJOR guitar influence in my own guitar playing career. As for Basia - what can I say? I own all of her albums and I just love her voice. She's a bit "sassy" and I just love it!
