Upon turning 18 and moving out to Syracuse, NY to pursue his academics, Cook was met with a vibrant local music scene the likes of which he had never felt in Brussels. A home found in basement shows and the will to not only make music, but be part of a new and exciting culture of ‘do it yourself’ diligence.
After two years, and two bedroom-recorded albums under the name Spark Alaska, it was time to break out of the quiet and comfortable shell Cook had made for himself.
Equipped with an old Peavey guitar, a microphone that had never been yelled into before, and a handful of musician friends to take over for Lorenzo’s inept rhythmic abilities, Petite League was born. It was the snotty, noisey music that Cook had always wanted to make.

A crooked tooth and a light denim jacket
You inherited from your mother's father
From my head to my toes, don't wanna live without her
Come home oh I'm still so drunk
Fall asleep with all the lights on
Pull her in, hold on, don't draw back
Once the wound heals, then you feel the pain
Of a love life going down the drain
Even during a blood moon, the sun will shine
She's an artist but she needs more time
Come home oh I'm still so drunk
Fall asleep with all the lights on
Pull her in, hold on, don't draw back
I don't care if she makes my lungs black
The song "My Black Lungs" by Petite League is about falling in love and making sacrifices for that love. The singer of the song has fallen for someone and is completely smitten with them, from their crooked tooth to their light denim jacket. They know that they cannot live without this person and want them to come home to them. The singer admits to being drunk and falling asleep with all the lights on, waiting for their beloved to return to them. They do not want to let go and do not care if this person makes their lungs black. This could be a metaphor for the harmful effects of love or the willingness to make unhealthy choices for love.
The lyrics suggest that the singer has been hurt before, as they reference the pain of a love life going down the drain. However, they still have hope and believe that even during the darkest of times (blood moon), there can still be some light (sun will shine). The person they are in love with is an artist who needs more time, but the singer is willing to wait.
The song captures the intensity of falling in love and the lengths one is willing to go to keep that love alive. It also highlights the complexity of relationships and the sacrifices that people make for love.
