Justice
Phantom Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Thunderous

Thunderous rumblings
Woke me in the night
Heart beat flutters
Flutters like a kite

Axe handle murder. murder on my mind

Electric justice, rumble in the sky
Electric justice, thunder in the eye -
Electric Justice, down from on high

EEEEEEElectric

Thunderous

Thunderous rumblings
Stirred me in the night
There were whispers
A blade is born to slice

Axe handed killer. killer, no surprise
Electric justice, rumble is Devine -
Electric justice, take up arms and fight
Electric justice, strike that parasite --

EEEEEEElectric

So many questions
Seemed to just subside
Now there was truth
A blade is born to slice

Axe handle laws. Laws I do abide
Electric justice, build me up inside
Electric justice, Burn for my crimes --
Electric justice, down from on high

EEEEEEElectric

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Phantom's song "Justice" depict a powerful and intense atmosphere with its recurring theme of thunderous rumblings. The first verse describes being abruptly awakened by these rumblings, causing one's heart to flutter anxiously like a kite in the wind. The phrase "axe handle murder, murder on my mind" suggests a strong desire for retribution or vengeance, as if the singer contemplates a violent act against someone who has wronged them. This line also introduces the concept of seeking justice through their own means.

The chorus reinforces the idea of seeking justice with the phrase "electric justice." The thunder in the sky and the rumbling imply that this form of justice is empowering and carries immense force. It's as if the singer believes that divine intervention is at play, reinforcing their righteous cause. The repetition of "electric justice, down from on high" emphasizes the belief that this form of justice is descending from a higher power.

In the second verse, the thunderous rumblings once again stir the singer, but this time there are whispers accompanying them. These whispers suggest that a weapon is being created or forming, ready to bring about swift and decisive justice. The line "axe-handed killer, killer, no surprise" portrays the singer as someone who is not afraid to take matters into their own hands, possibly suggesting a willingness to resort to violence in order to restore balance and justice.

As the song progresses, the lyrics touch on the transformation that occurs within the singer. They mention that many questions have subsided, indicating that doubt and uncertainty have been replaced by a newfound sense of truth and clarity. The phrase "a blade is born to slice" not only alludes to the weapon mentioned earlier but also symbolizes the singer's determination to cut through injustice and wrongdoing. The mention of "axe handle laws" implies that the singer has chosen to live by their own moral code, separate from societal norms or regulations.

Overall, "Justice" by Phantom delves into the themes of seeking retribution, empowerment, and the desire for a personal interpretation of justice. It portrays a protagonist who is willing to go to great lengths, even resorting to violence if necessary, to bring about what they believe to be a fair and just outcome. The repetitive and thunderous nature of the lyrics strengthens the intensity and determination of the singer, emphasizing their unwavering pursuit of justice.

That deep pulsating bass starting from 2:06, I pray all of you have good enough audio to hear and appreciate that. Good gracious.

I think it's really cool how they have rumbles underneath the synths throughout the song as well. So creative! Can't wait for 2:06, almost to it!

Also appreciate how huge the kick drum sounds especially when it is introduced @0:16 not sure how it was processed besides a bit of reverb to fill out it's sound. Later on as more elements are introduced it is harder to hear just how fat that kick is. This album was revolutionary. It hit right when I was in my mid 20s and travelling from festival to show to rave on a week to week basis. SO many DJs and even other famous producers in their own right were playing this, Genesis, Waters of Nazareth and other tracks from this album in heavy rotation in 2007-09. This really set off the Electro-House popularity boom as other producers copied Justice's grimy saw wave synth sound and simple pounding kick snare beat.
