Mutha
Phantom Blue Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
His eyes tell the story
Picked up for beating up on
Little old ladies
Animated warfare
Blown up in my mind
Could you darken the color
Feel the defeat yeah
The man lost his money
Send me to sleep from now on
Three hours early
[Chorus]
Mutha won't you dry my eyes
It's scaring me it's scaring me
Mutha say it's only lies
It's killing me
Oh mutha please
Mr. Yami Schwami
He lied to take a life
I want my mommy wommy
To put me out of sight
It's bad enough I got the rain
The wind and thunder too
One sober day's all I want
From the damn evening news
[Chorus]
The lyrics of Phantom Blue's song "Mutha" present a dark and somber image of the world. The opening lines "Where do the bad ones go? His eyes tell the story" suggest a sense of ambiguity and uncertainty, perhaps even questioning the existence of what society deems "bad". The following lines "Picked up for beating up on little old ladies" are direct and simple, highlighting the brutality and senselessness of such an act.
The second verse of "Mutha" appears to delve deeper into the conceptual nature of violence and conflict with lyrics like "Animated warfare, blown up in my mind. Could you darken the color so black won't look so white?" which introduces the idea of perception, and how the way we see things can affect how we react to them. The mention of someone losing all their money and the desire to be put to sleep early is again a reflection of the pain and suffering that seems to be prevalent in the world.
The chorus of "Mutha" is a plea for comfort, with the singer begging her mother to alleviate her fear and anxiety. The mention of lies and it's killing me, along with the desire to be put out of sight, paints a picture of a person who feels trapped and hopeless.

Probably one of the most underrated bands in the history of music! It makes me sad that they never got the fame they deserved. This album should be considered a classic. Phantom Blue is a hidden gem.

Never judge an album by its cover, especially THIS one! Upon glancing at the thumbnail I drew my own conclusions but was immediately shocked after that first track! This album kicks you in the balls from the opening riff and absolutely does not let up on you the rest of the way! Definitely a hidden gem that should be required listening for all 80's metal fans everywhere!🤘🏾

I don’t just judge a album or book by it’s cover, I also judge the title as well. I made no mistakes looking into this band.
