Sunday
Phil Keaggy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Monday's child was feeling blue,
Tuesday's child who noticed you,
Wednesday's child was full of woe,
Thursday's child was dressed up
With no place to go.
Friday's child and Saturday
Out there running wild.
Since she's met the King of hearts
They call her Sunday's child.

Sunday's child, oh yeah.
Sunday's child, oh yeah.

Some they cry all through the night,
A few send up a wishing kite.
When the day comes to an end,
There you sit all alone feeling empty again.
Frightened by each sadder day,
So long since you smiled.
You will find no peace of mind
Til you're Sunday's child.

Sunday's child, oh yeah.
Sunday's child, oh yeah.

Every day of the week,
Every month of the year,
While time is still on your side,
Take the love that is here.
Take the love that is here.

Monday's child was feeling blue,
Tuesday's child who noticed you,
Wednesday's child was full of woe,
Thursday's child was dressed up
With no place to go.
Friday's child and Saturday
Out there running wild.
Since she's met the King of hearts
They call her Sunday's child.

Sunday's child, oh yeah.
Sunday's child, oh yeah.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Phil Keaggy's song "Sunday's Child" express the journey of finding true love and inner peace through the eyes of different children representing each day of the week. The song starts off with the representation of different children with different emotions, but it finally reaches Sunday's child, who has finally found love and happiness. The first verse explains how Monday's child is feeling blue and how Tuesday's child notices someone. On the other hand, Wednesday's child is full of woe and Thursday's child is dressed up with no place to go. But Friday's child and Saturday are running wild, trying to find their true selves. Finally, the lyrics tell that since Sunday's child has met the King of hearts, they found inner peace and happiness.

The song's chorus repeats "Sunday's child, oh yeah" establishes the idea that being Sunday's child is a state of happiness and peace brought by true love, and it's a feeling everyone should strive to experience. The lyrics emphasize that love is something that should be taken seriously and grasped while it's still available. The song gives out the message that the search for love is itself a journey, but it's a journey worth taking because, in the end, it leads to true happiness and peace of mind.

The production on this album is incredible, and so is Phil. For me it outshines all the rest.

@REVW196

They used a lot of the BEATLES production tricks, Phil Keaggy and Randy Stonehill colaberated on it , and they also did a version of it , on another colaberation , Mystery HIghway .

@albertlopez2237

Yes most productions in the 80s in Christian music was not so great they did not have the big budgets the secular market had. You had great music just low quality productions. Thankfully computer technology productions are much more economical
