It's hard to know what we'd do, once we were there, in front of all those people and with the cameras rolling and knowing it's going to be shown to millions of people, and having something like that sprung on you.
I mean, maybe you know yourself well enough to know what you'd do-- I'm just saying I don't know what I'd do, and I bet that's the case for a lot of other folks, too.

I concur wholeheartedly, Dr Phil was wrong in this episode as he did not respect the wishes of his guest to not bring her mother on the show.

Dr Phil is not even licensed to practice his craft, yet prounces about in his fancy television studio like an almighty being talking down to his guests and audience.

The young lady showed more maturity than Dr Phil ever did. The argument should not have been as to whom the show belongs to, that has nothing to do with it. The young lady may have had a sound reason as to not have her mother present.

As to Dr Phil, apparently he earns in the vicinity of sixty-four million dollars a year for his syndicated show. It would appear that the good doctor may be more interested in his TV ratings than giving suitable advice to his many guests. ☝️🙄

Yeah, you're right-- kids should respect their elders as the elders treat them with contempt and inflict emotional abuse on them. Why should he tell her when she first says she doesn't feel comfortable with her bio mom, that in that case he is unwilling to do the show, when he can wait, tell her once she's already there, and have a chance to make her squirm, and berate her, and assert his authority?
Respect should be earned. When an older person is mistreating someone, taking advantage of his power/authority/position, exploiting a younger person...he forfeits his right to respect, and needs to get treated for the person he is, not "respected" merely because he was born before someone else-- esp. when that someone else is just asserting basic rights the older person is violating, and when the younger person is kinder, more polite, and just generally a better human being.
