Phildel is a compo… Read Full Bio ↴Phildel is an up-and-coming musician from London.
Phildel is a compound name - made up of her two parents' names: Philip and Della. Her father is Hong Kong Chinese and her mother is Irish. Despite being off to a good start, at the age of 8, Phildel's life spiraled into what can only be described as a Dickensian-style story. Her parents divorced and her mother married a religious fundamentalist. Her name/religion/lifestyle/dress-code were changed by force, all of her possessions seized and music became a forbidden evil within the household. For the next decade Phildel was treated as a servant within her home. However, Phildel spent lunchtimes with her school piano with sympathetic music teachers, creating and playing her compositions relentlessly. She ran away from home at 17 to escape her home-life and to finally follow her dreams.
She got together a second-hand computer and some music demo software packages and began putting together her first home-demo. Within very little time, it attracted the attention of Roger Watson - former Chrysalis MD and his support of her lead to collaborations with Spike MaClaren at Massive Attack's studio and Sam Dixon (known for his collaborations with many artists including KT Tunstall and Duffy's 'Rockferry' album).
In 2007 her epic and moving music was used on one of the UK's most high profile advertising campaigns, followed by two more high profile filmic campaigns in France in 2008/2009.
During December 2008, Phildel joined the likes of Radiohead and Goldfrapp to become a Warner Chappell Music Publishing artist. She is currently working at the world-famous Metropolis Recording Studio, to complete her neo-classical album. This will be followed by the recording of her artist album later in 2009.
Monolith
Phildel Lyrics

The light is gold, I wear your crown
Running through the forest to a heartbeat count
I′m wild and free, I'm with you now
Monolith, monolith, monolith, monolith
Standing like a god, the light falls under it
Monolith, monolith, monolith, monolith
One black stone hears the way you cry
Nothing but the forest keeps your secrets when you lie
One black stone in the earth
A true north bullet in the dirt
Monolith, monolith, monolith, monolith
Even in our circle, bare skin wonders it
Monolith, monolith, monolith, monolith
Swallowed by your whirlpool, how I plummeted
Wild as I want to be (nah-ha, monolith)
Rivers, you run to me (nah-ha, monolith)
Running through the forest with my feet bare down
The light is gold, I wear your crown
Running through the forest to a heartbeat count
I′m wild and free, I'm with you now
Monolith, monolith, monolith, monolith
Standing like a god, the light falls under it
Monolith, monolith, monolith, monolith
Even in the blue moon, I still wonder it
One black rock in the dirt
Smooth stone knows just what your body's worth
One black rock and the way you cry
Nothing but the forest wants your body when you die
(When you die)
Running through the forest with my feet bare down
The light is gold, I wear your crown
Running through the forest to a heartbeat count
I′m wild and free, I′m with you now
Monolith, monolith, monolith, monolith
Standing like a god, the light falls under it
Monolith, monolith, monolith, monolith
Even in the blue moon, I still wonder it
I was running from a bad dream in the dark
There's nothing like the big, bad scream in your heart
I was running from a bad dream in the dark
No, there′s nothing like the big, bad scream in your heart
Mono-mono-monolith
Monolith
Monolith, monolith, monolith, monolith
Even in our circle, bare skin wonders it
Even in the blue moon, I still wonder it
Even in the blue moon
The lyrics to Phildel's song "Monolith" portray a sense of freedom and connection with nature. The singer is running through the forest with bare feet, feeling wild and free. The forest represents a sanctuary where they can escape from the constraints of society and embrace their true self. The mention of wearing a crown and standing like a god suggests a sense of empowerment and strength.
The repeated use of the word "monolith" creates a powerful image of something monumental and majestic. It symbolizes an imposing force or presence that is awe-inspiring. The lyrics express wonder and admiration for this monolithic entity, even under the blue moon, which highlights the lasting impact it has on the singer.
The mention of a black stone and its connection to secrets and crying implies a deeper emotional resonance. The forest becomes a place of solace, where one can confide in its non-judgmental embrace. The mention of a true north bullet in the dirt suggests a sense of guidance and purpose amidst the chaos and uncertainty of life.
The lyrics also touch upon the theme of vulnerability and intimacy. The singer wonders about being swallowed by the whirlpool and how they plummeted. This could represent the overwhelming sensation of being consumed by love or a deep connection with someone or something.
Overall, "Monolith" is a song that celebrates the liberation and connection found in nature while exploring themes of empowerment, vulnerability, and wonder.

I really like this song that I have been listening to for some time. Wild, free, like a prayer, tribal sounds, the whole thing touches me, caresses me, speaks to me and grabs me. Murmurs and whispers. Powerful feelings. Thrills, vibes, chills: precious gem and balm for my heart. THANKS

So many of these songs have something fantastical about them, while also giving us wonderful, deep, poetic things to think over or to feel deeply. Thank you for another lovely creation. This one, while not striking any personal heartchords, is utter perfection for my writing playlist and I'm sure I'll play it often over the coming days because it has such wonderful, wild spirit and I think we all need a bit of that!

Oh that is such a kind and thoughtful message, thank you Jessica xx
