2) The electro-acoustic composer-ensemble Phosphor was formed in 2000 by 7 Berlin-based musicians, who had been developing a similar musical language during the '90s. Common to all of them was a basic need for more concentration and clarity in their music. Instead of letting the sound material develop in a constant flow of events, they therefore chose silence, in which the material was placed, as a point of departure. This lead to a more deliberate way of dealing with the material. In particular the beginning, end, duration, dynamic, intensity and quality of each sound event were critically assessed, together with their relation to other sound events (contrast, layering, overlapping/eclipsing etc) and their significance in relation to the structure and form of a whole piece. In addition there was a tendency to work mainly with very quiet material, thereby opening a microscopic dynamic spectrum with a large potential for differentiation. Although the musical spectrum has since opened out in many different directions, this 'reductionist' phase of clarification may still be clearly heard in the real-time compositions of the ensemble. Solistic passages continue to be restrained in favour of a complex interlocking group structure, and even the densest passages are still marked by transparency.

The song "Rotary" by Phosphor is a reflection on addiction and the struggle to overcome it. The lyrics portray the singer's internal conflict between an addiction they are trying to refine and the subjective and submissive feelings that come with it. They acknowledge their lack of control over their addiction, but continue to rotate and fixate on it anyway. The pulsating affliction of addiction is a danger to the singer, yet they are unable to break free from it. The use of repetition in the lyrics, such as "rotating, fixating, pulsating, affliction, addiction", serves to reinforce the cyclical nature of addiction and the difficulty in breaking free from it.
The second verse of the song introduces the idea of objective direction and affection as a possible solution to the singer's addiction. However, they again acknowledge their inability to control their feelings and continue to rotate and fixate on their addiction. The use of the phrase "you messed up, I feel it" suggests that the addiction is perhaps triggered by an external factor or person. The repetition of lines such as "I've been waiting a long, long time" and "you can't control what you feel inside" reinforces the idea of internal struggle and the singer's frustration with their inability to overcome their addiction.
Overall, the lyrics of "Rotary" by Phosphor offer a poignant reflection on addiction and the internal struggle to overcome it. The cyclical nature of addiction and the difficulty in breaking free from it are conveyed through the use of repetition and powerful imagery.

0:36 I love her deep beautiful voice so much, it is intensely erotic,
it is so feminine yet very masculine sounding both at the same time..
which is so attractive & just drives me crazy.
the melancholy of New Wave / Electronic / Avant Garde
artists like Phosphor
Silent Signals - Waiting For Reaction
or work by Deine lakaien
are overwhelming but, so comforting..
I love the video also.

I just found out they broke up which is kind of a bummer. As soon as i heard them back in July, i Ordered Youth & Immortality on Black vinyl, very good album, i am surprised they did not have more of a following.
Phosphor, you will be sadly missed !
