Having first… Read Full Bio ↴Pillow Queens is an Irish indie-rock band from Dublin.
Having first come together in Autumn of 2016 on a basketball court in a Dublin city park, the four members of Pillow Queens realised that making music together would be an equally productive group activity. Members are Sarah Corcoran, Rachel Lyons (drums and vocals), Cathy McGuinness (guitar and vocals), and
Pamela Connolly (Corcoran and Connolly swap guitar, bass and lead vocal duties).
Within a few months of forming they released their debut EP, Calm Girls, titled in an ironic nod to the bands anxious nature. The three songs dealt with themes of despair, crisis of self and distrust. The closing Wonderboys was “an attempt to put into musical form the feeling you get when your eyes roll back into your head when faced with toxic masculinity.”
The songs quickly found their way into the hearts of new fans in the local underground DIY scene, and even onto BBC 6music playlists, with Steve Lamacq calling them “deceptively infectious, with sharp hooks and sharp nails” .
By the summer of 2017, the band were touring the UK and performing on festival stages.
Pillow Queens’ second EP, State of the State, was released in 2018 on UK DIY label Specialist Subject.
While taking influence from artists from contemporary US DIY indie & punk scenes (such as Mitski, Waxahatchee, Hop Along, Cloud Nothings), Pillow Queens stay true to their Irish heritage, using Dublin colloquialisms in their lyrics and singing in thick Irish accents.
Harvey
Pillow Queens Lyrics

The song "Harvey" by Pillow Queens appears to be about a person who is longing for someone they cannot have. In the opening lines, the singer is dreaming of someone who seems to be unattainable, feeling as though they are "ten feet off the floor." Despite this feeling of weightlessness and euphoria, the singer is aware that they are potentially damaging themselves by indulging in their desire for this person. They refer to themselves as a "sucker for a sore sight," acknowledging that their attraction is causing them pain.
As the song progresses, the singer continues to express their interest in this person, addressing them directly as "Harvey." They seem almost resigned to their fate, expressing the sentiment that they "can't be always waiting [their] turn," suggesting that they understand they may never be able to have this person. Despite this, the singer is still drawn to Harvey, and hopes that others will see the connection between them.
The chorus serves as a sort of love letter to Harvey, expressing how much the singer is drawn to him. They acknowledge that Harvey has them "weak at the knees" and they hope that every party will see them together. The song ends with a hint of desperation, as the singer declares that they won't be able to rest until their desire for Harvey is fulfilled.

I was dreaming of you last night
I thought about you and imagined you in my dreams last night
I was floating ten feet off the floor
In my dream, I felt weightless and euphoric
Such a sucker for a sore sight
I am easily drawn to things that are painful or depressing
Someone save me from savouring the pure
I need help avoiding things that seem good but are actually harmful
Well I hardly, hardly, hardly had my foot in the door
I have barely just arrived
Before my heartbeat started
But my heart was already racing with excitement
You'll only wanna see me more
I know I will become more irresistible to you
Oh Harvey how could I hate you
I cannot bring myself to dislike Harvey
You got me weak at the knees
He has the power to make me weak and submissive
I hope that every party sees you adjacent
I want everyone to notice us together
Placing your eyes on me
I want you to focus all your attention on me
There's a safety in a soft sun
I feel safe and comfortable in gentle surroundings
Not expected to fill up a room
I don't need to be the center of attention
I've been leaning on a sharp tongue
I have relied on being harsh or witty with my words
Slowly hits but it quickly consumes
It takes time to build up, but it ultimately overwhelms me
Well I can't be can't be Can't be always waiting my turn
I don't want to wait for someone else's approval or attention
If you had me to hold me
If you were with me
You'll only want to see me burn
You will only want more of me, even if it destroys me
I won't sleep till the leaves are on the trees.
I will stay awake and restless until spring comes
I- Thought about it until late last night
I couldn't stop thinking about it until late at night
And if the rain don't rest
And if it keeps raining
I'll just get myself undressed
I'll remove my clothes to feel free and uninhibited
Roll around the road like it's a king size bed
I'll roll around in the mud as if it were the most comfortable bed
(Now let's get back to my-)
(Now let's continue with what I was saying before)
