Fool
Pine Leaf Boys Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Fool, for everyone will know you're the fool who let her go
'Cause you knew she'd be back whenever you said so
Fool, she's found someone new
Fool, he knew just what to do
Now she's gone and the joke's on you
Fool
Doesn't she seem so happy?
Yes, right now she's walking down the aisle
And all you can do is cry inside
You fool, that could be you there with her
Fool, now it is you who'll miss her
Don't look as he lifts the veil to kiss her
Fool
Fool
(Musical Interlude)
Fool, don't let them see your face
Fool, for everyone will say you're the fool who walked away
And said you'd pick up where you left off someday
Fool that's what you get for playing
Fool look at the price you're paying
What's that word that I heard slinging?
Fool

The Pine Leaf Boys' song "Fool" is a song about heartbreak and regret. The lyrics start with a warning to the subject of the song, telling them not to let their feelings show, for the whole world will know that they are the one who let her go. The subject knew that she would come back whenever he wanted her to, but he still let her leave, and now she has found someone new who knew just how to keep her. The joke is on the subject now, and he is the fool. The second verse is about seeing the woman he let go looking lovely, happy, and walking down the aisle with someone else. The subject is left to cry inside, regretting his decision. The musical interlude gives the listener a chance to reflect on the weight of the lyrics before returning to the last verse. The final verse is about the subject's regret and how the world sees him as the one who walked away and will now say he was the fool.
