I'm Not Dead
Pink Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
There's all these cracks
Crack of sunlight
Crack in the mirror, on your lips
It's the moment of a sunset, Friday
When our conversations twist
It's the fifth day of ice on a new tattoo
But the ice should be on our heads
We only spun a web to catch ourselves
So we weren't left for death

And I was never looking for approval from anyone but you
And though this journey is over, I'll go back if you ask me to

I'm not dead, just floating
Right between the ink of your tattoo
In the belly of the beast we turned into
I'm not scared, just changing
Right beyond the cigarette and the devilish smile
You're my crack of sunlight

You can do the math a thousand ways, but you can't erase the facts
That others come, and others go, but you always come back
I'm a winter flower underground, always thirsty for summer rain
And just like the change of seasons
I know you'll be back again

I'm not dead, just floating
Right between the ink of your tattoo
In the belly of the beast we turned into
I'm not scared, just changing
Right beyond the cigarette and the devilish smile
You're my crack of sunlight

I'm not dead just yet
I'm not dead, I'm just floating
Doesn't matter where I'm going
I'll find you
I'm not scared at all
Underneath the cuts and bruises
Finally gained what no one loses
I'll find you
I will find you

I'm not dead, just floating

I'm not scared, just changing
You're my crack of sunlight, yeah

Overall Meaning

In Pink's song "I'm Not Dead," she's talking about a relationship that's going through a rough patch. She refers to the cracks in the relationship, like sunlight coming through a closed window, and says it's like looking in a mirror and seeing the reflection of the other person with chapped lips.

The idea of the sunset on a Friday is significant because it's the end of the week, and it's traditionally seen as a time to let go of the past and start fresh. The lyrics suggest that Pink knows that she and her partner need to let go of the past, but they keep getting caught up in the past and spinning a web that traps them.

The chorus suggests that Pink is still hopeful about the relationship, which is why she feels like she's floating between the ink of her partner's tattoo. She's not dead or scared, but instead, she's changing and evolving as a person. Even if they're apart, she knows that they'll always find their way back to each other, just like the changing seasons.

Overall, the song is about the ups and downs of a complicated relationship and the hope that things will eventually work out.

I'm a 49 year old who thought that 70's and 80's music was the best. I didn't really like any modern music. I still love the music from back in my day don't get me wrong but this woman is absolutely phenomenal. Not only is she a good mom and wife but her voice and performances are brilliant. This frugal woman would pay to see her in concert!

She wasn’t a mom yet in this old concert. I can look at any picture of her and tell if it’s pre mom or mom. I saw this concert live. She’s fantastic at everything and has a great personality as well. She’s funny.

@JillontheLake

We don't deserve P!nk, she's a living legend and is very underrated.

@laurabootsch

I disagree! We deserve her! And she deserves us! We're all Fighters in one way or the other...a big Rainbow Family...a Worldwide Gang of Outsiders...Warriors of Love...
If there are People in this Universe which can save this Planet...WE can!!! WE are the People we have been waiting for! 💪🥳❤🧡💛💚💙💙💗💞💞Love you Guys and I love YOU ...Pink, 🥰 Alicia...🤴🏼Thanks for existing....you are one big reason I am still alive, love you soooo much....

@pennycarrigan4356

She was finally acknowledged this year with the decade award. Although you're right, as one of the best vocalists and real issues song writer, she's definitely underrated in the music industry!!

@goodburger1114

How tf is she underrated? 🤣😂

@jamiecee4960

I don't think she's that underrated. I think she's been around since the 80's. ☺️

@FUCK2024

@Jamie Cee49 actually... she did not start her music career until 2000. She was born in 1979, so definitely did not start her music career in the 80s.
