The song "Mayday" by Pino Scotto addresses the economic and social issues that have arisen in Italy as a result of the recession. The people are starving, and they struggle to keep their teeth from breaking. The world has spiraled into a tailspin, and they are in the midst of it all. The song goes on to say that people are trying to keep up appearances by going on expensive shopping sprees, wearing python shoes and mink stoles, but it is all just a façade. The song then talks about the people who have lost everything and are now living in bars, and how it is worse than even the computer game "Avatar". Pino Scotto talks about himself and how he owes millions, and how the stress is getting to him. The song ends on a very ominous note with the words "Mayday, la canna di una colt" which means "Mayday, the barrel of a gun."
