The song had a fairly low profile for some time before attracting further attention in 2006, after Placebo began to include it in their set whilst touring to promote Meds.

"Running Up That Hill" was released as a single in October, 2006, and was included on the re-released version of Meds in 2007, along with the song, 'UNEEDMEMORETHANINEEDU'. It was then included on Covers, a rerelease of the Sleeping With Ghosts bonus disc. It gained popularity once again in early 2010 as it was used in a video hyping a career ending match for wrestler Shawn Michaels as he took on The Undertaker at WWE's Wrestlemania XXVI.

Placebo's take on the song is more downbeat than the original, and focuses more on instrumentation. It has been described by Q Magazine as 'sound[ing] more like a pact with the Devil' than the original 'deal with God'.

I first heard this song on an episode of Warehouse 13. That whole scene was phenomenal, brilliantly acted, and this song was the perfect accompaniment to it. So haunting.

I listened to this for years on an ipod in the early 2000's and thought it was the original and only version. Then they started playing the original like crazy in my city in 2021 before Stranger Things and I was like, "Dam this is sick, is this some new artist covering Placebo?" Now its popping off again from Stranger Things.

I love Placebo, they can do no wrong in my eyes & to my ears ❤️ I will say the original holds a very special place in my heart & as much as I love Stranger Things (season 4 part 1 was FIRE!!) The original and this one are so different than it's hard to compare them. It's like apples and oranges. I listened to this one first and only really listened to the original because of Stranger Things. They are both great because they both succeed at what they are going for.

I love this song, and I knew there was an original out there, but it was a song that didn't grip me and want me to play it over and over again, until I heard it on the vampire diaries, where it caught the mood, & mysterious essence of what the vampire diaries was and still is, haunting and eerie.. Brilliant version, and one I've listened to over and over again.

I have such a weird connection with this song. The first time I heard this song was in 2010, when I saw the promo video of the match between Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker at WrestleMania 26. Then a year later I heard the original version from Kate Bush, and I thought "damn this is such a powerful song", but at the same time it made me feel hopeless and sad, so I decided I wouldn't listen to this song again. Years kept going and I would always get to a place where I would listen to this song again. And it wasn't like I wanted to listen to this song, but everytime I heard this one again for some weird reason I had a feeling that I had to listen the complete song and not skiping it, like if something bad would happen if I stopped the song. Last time I heard this song was in 2021, I was at a park alone, and it was very dark. And I remember that I stopped the song, and my heart started beating so fast that I thought I was gonna pass out or something, so then quickly I pressed play again on my phone to keep listening till it was over. And from that day I got so scared and decided to never listen to this song ever again. After all of that, this year I didn't heard this song at all, not even once... But then I started watching season 4 of Stranger Things, and I got to the episode "Dear Billy". And I swear to God when I got to the part where I thought Max was gonna die at the hands of Vecnar, I started shaking so bad, but then she made it to the end and when she's hugged by Lucas I couldn't help myself but to cry, but it wasn't like a sad type of crying, it was a relief type of crying. The thing for me with this song is that I always sense that something bad will happen if I don't listen to the full song, and I don't know how to stop feeling that.

I think it was 2007 when I first heard this exact cover. This is THE version in my heart. When I hear the original I immediately have to listen to this one instead. I know its because I didn't grow up with the original being born in '90. I just adore Placebo.

Esta canción la escuche en el menu DVD 2003 Live Paris. Obviamente no existía YouTube ni Shazam. Así la escuche y ahora es tendencia. Muchos la escuchamos en esa epoca (2003) y personalmente me parece el mejor Cover superando la original!
