1) Placebo is… Read Full Bio ↴There are at least four artists with the name Placebo:
1) Placebo is a British alternative rock band formed in London in 1994 by vocalist-guitarist Brian Molko and bassist-guitarist Stefan Olsdal. Drummer Robert Schultzberg joined in late 1994 but left in 1996 shortly after the release of the band's eponymous debut album due to conflicts with Molko. He was replaced the same year by Steve Hewitt. Molko was born in Belgium, and Olsdal and Schultzberg were born in Sweden. Remaining members Molko and Olsdal both grew up in Luxembourg before separately relocating to London and are both British citizens.
Following the release of a demo, a split single, and their eponymous debut album, Placebo gained exposure in 1997 after the single "Nancy Boy" became popular in the UK, a song notorious at the time for its gender-bending content. The band stood out among the Britpop scene they were associated with at the time for their androgynous appearance and musical content, as well as Molko's distinctive voice and lyrics which openly discussed sexuality, mental health, and drug use.
Hewitt left Placebo in 2007 due to personal and musical differences. He was replaced the following year by Steve Forrest. Placebo released two albums with Forrest, who left in 2015 to pursue his own musical career. Since 2015, Placebo has been officially a duo, though augmented with additional musicians.
Placebo has collaborated with various artists over the years, including David Bowie, Justin Warfield, Michael Stipe, and Alison Mosshart. To date, Placebo has released eight studio albums, all of which have reached the Top 20 in the United Kingdom, and have sold around 14 million records worldwide.

Soulmates

Though it comes as no surprise
These clouds we're seeing
They're explosions in the sky
It seems it's written
But we can't read between the line
Hush
Dry your eye
Dry your eye
Soulmate dry your eye
Dry your eye
Soulmate dry your eye
'Cause soulmates never die
This one world vision
Turns us in to compromise
(What good's religion)
(When it's each other we despise)
Damn the government
Damn their killing
Damn their lies (it's okay)
Dry your eyes
Soulmate dry your eyes
Dry your eyes
Soulmate dry your eyes
'Cause soulmates never die
Soulmates never die
Soulmates never die
Soulmates never die
Soulmates never die
Never die
Soulmates never die
Soulmates never die
The lyrics to Placebo's song Soulmates describe the apocalyptic end of the world scenario where the sea is evaporating, and it seems like it's written, but no one can read between the lines. The "explosions in the sky" represent the chaos and destruction that we are witnessing. However, the singer reassures his soulmate that it's okay to cry and that soulmates never die.
The second verse questions the idea of a one-world vision that leads to compromise and how religion means nothing when we despise each other. The government is blamed for killing and lies, yet the singer asks his soulmate to dry their eyes and reassures them that soulmates never die.
The song is a powerful message about the fragility of our world and how we must hold on to love and the hope that something eternal exists beyond this mortal realm. It is a song of encouragement to deal with the difficult times we face and reminding us of the importance of true love and connections in our lives.

This version has such a different feel than sleeping with ghosts, a more visceral heart pounding version. Infinitely love both versions, thrilled for the new album Friday. Such poignant lyrics mirroring our current world state.
