Morning Dew
Plant Robert Lyrics

Walk me out in the morning dew my honey
Walk me out in the morning dew today;
Can't walk you out in the morning dew my honey
Can't walk you out in the morning dew today!

Thought I heard a young girl cry mama,
Thought I heard a young girl cry today-
You didn't hear no young girl crying mama,
You didn't hear no young girl cry today!

Thought I heard a young man cry mama-
Thought I heard a young man cry today-
You didn't hear no young man crying mama
You didn't hear no young man cry today!

Now, there's no more morning dew
Now, there's no more morning dew-

What they've been saying all these years is true
Now, there's no more morning dew!

Overall Meaning

The song "Morning Dew" by Robert Plant is a cover of a post-apocalyptic folk song that was originally recorded by Bonnie Dobson in 1962. In the song, the singer is asking their lover to walk with them in the morning dew, but they are unable to do so. The first verse repeats this desire for a walk in the morning dew, while the second and third verses introduce the idea of a young girl or man crying for their mother, creating a sense of sadness and loss. The final verse brings everything full circle, revealing that there is no more morning dew, which can be interpreted as a symbol of the end of the world or the end of an important relationship.

The repeated phrase "you didn't hear no young girl/young man cry today" can be seen as a denial of the emotions that are present in the song, highlighting the need to stay strong and not give in to despair. The line "what they've been saying all these years is true" in the final verse adds to the sense of impending doom and suggests that something was prophesized but not heeded.

Overall, "Morning Dew" has been interpreted in many different ways, from a protest song against nuclear war to a commentary on the end of a romantic relationship. The haunting melody and poignant lyrics make it a powerful and enduring song that continues to resonate with listeners today.

The more I listen to Robert and age, I understand his brilliance on such a remarkably different level. I have spent 35 years listening to him, his voice, his interpretations I am now understanding his brilliant arrangements and construction. It seems in someway the music all sounds new again. It’s a very strange but excellent experience.

@jim-beam

There is true in what you say. Feel the same.

@victorrock1997

It truly feels the same for me as well, and I am barely 24! I grew up listening to Led Zeppelin and, concomitantly, I also started listening to his solo records and they totally fascinated me. They have a very warm, sensitive, delicate approach to the listener, regardless of his background, which, in any case, is always rather complex. All the best! :)

P.S.: Fate of Nations remains one of my all time most favourite rock records to this day! <3

Love this voice. An artist who went his own way and won♥♥In my opinion of course.

@dharmabeachbum6330

The Grateful Dead's version of this song is still my favorite, but it's incredible the way Robert can cover any song and interpret it as if he wrote it.

@DanA-gz5tn

Bonnie Dobson’s original is great
