Drifting
Plumb featuring Dan Haseltine [feat. Dan Haseltine] Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a sea of lonely swimming sad
Looking just for an arm to grab
I don't need to understand
I'm just lending you the two that I have

[Chorus]
You might be drifting
And can't find the shore
So hopeless and all alone
The waves are crashing all around you
Just when you've lost the will to live
You see the sun

Can we make a searchlight
From all the bridges that we burn?
Do you see a rescue?
Or a deeper kind of hurt?

Who could love you,
Who could hold you?
I'd swim across the sea
You don't have to be alone
Where the shallow gets so deep

[Chorus]

I am hurt and nearly drown
(Open up your eyes)
I cry for help you turned around
(Open up your eyes)
Farther from the shore
Or you'll be farther from the shore

I am hurt and nearly drown
(You're not alone)
I cry for help you turned around
(I'm not letting go)
Farther from the shore
So you're not farther from the shore

[Chorus]

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song "Drifting" by Plumb featuring Dan Haseltine are about offering support and helping someone who is feeling lost and alone. The song opens up by describing a scene where many people in the world are feeling alone and swimming in sadness, looking for someone to hold on to. The singer doesn't have to understand why someone is going through such a difficult time, but she is offering her support and helping hands to the person in need.

The chorus of the song talks about how the person might be drifting in the ocean of sadness and feeling hopeless, but there is still hope even when it seems like there's no way out. Sometimes the waves of life can be too much to bear, but just when they feel like giving up, they can see the sun shining through. The singer is trying to instill hope in the person, reminding them that the shallow depths may seem too deep, but they're not alone, and they can always find their way back to the shore.

In the second verse of the song, the lyrics discuss the idea of people burning bridges and how that is not the way to find a rescue. The singer wants the person not to feel hopeless and think that their life is full of deeper hurt. Instead, they should focus on finding someone who loves them and holds them during their depressive moments. The bridge symbolizes hope, and we should try to light it up so that others who are lost and drifting can find their way to the shore.

Overall, the message of the song is that life can be challenging, and it can make you feel lost and alone, but there is still hope. With the right support and love, anyone can find their way back to the shore.

This is a great song; I really like this song too. I have heard the radio version and can't get enough of it either; it's more upbeat but still speaks to me about the love of God and of the love we should have for one another. When we feel lost or all alone God is there, we just need to cry out to him. He will not let us down; I feel that Tiffany is singing about God's love expressed by caring Christians reaching out to those who feel lost or hopeless.

My father committed suicide and years later I felt myself in a similar place of sadness. I heard this song and felt like the Holy Spirit was singing this to me to keep me holding on. That was 2017. This is July 2023 and I’m here. Thank God for the hope he put in my heart thru his love for me. I was lost but he came to save me. Thank you Plumb for this song. It may have saved my life. I just kept listening to it and it spoke a ray of hope🙏❤️
