Mokele
Polka Wars Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

As the white dreams go static by the winds
While it wipes all the trees and clouds
All the visions of a muddled memory
fades beneath all the blurry stills

As the white dreams go static by the winds
While it wipes all the buildings and grounds
As the pearly gates closing unforseen
Swallowed up by the hands of time

And all of the signs lead it in
it's turning the tide into fiends
And all of the signs lead it in
it's turning and turn the tide into fiends

Often see you out there
Mokelé-mbembe

As the white dreams go static by the winds
While it wipes all the trees and clouds
and All the visions of a muddled memory
fades beneath all the blurry stills

Cracks are dawning cold under the skin
Tremble all then seize and falls
Palms are laid out catching a trapeze
Falling of from this crooked mind

It rises it falls it calls you out
Bleak demands only holds it out
It rises it falls it calls you out
Bleak demans only holds it out

Often see you out there
Mokelé-mbembe

It's all just a pebble
Just stick it up to the west side
Face all the angles
Clarity hangs on the other side
It may seem irrational
just ride your way till the sunset

A well prized endavour
Clouded away on the other side

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Polka Wars's song "Mokelé" speak of fleeting memories and the passing of time, as well as the mysterious Mokelé-mbembe, a creature from African folklore. The first two stanzas describe how the wind erases everything in its path, from trees and clouds to buildings and grounds, as the memories of the past fade away. The next two stanzas speak of cracks "dawning cold under the skin" and limbs trembling, falling off from this "crooked mind."

The chorus repeatedly references the cryptid creature Mokelé-mbembe, and the mysterious presence it holds. The lyrics suggest that the creature is always present, as the singer often sees it, but elusive and unattainable; much like the fleeting memories of the past. The last stanza speaks of a journey to the "other side," where clarity is said to hang, but the path may seem irrational. It becomes clear that the song is about letting go of the past and embracing the unknown, even if the journey seems difficult or uncertain.
