Another Day
Pomplamoose Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Another day
Shows its face
I'm half awake
Half in space
And if you told me I was beautiful well that would just
Be in poor taste.

Another hour
Flying by
I've yet to shower
Yet to dry
And if you told me I was wonderful I probably would
Wonder why.

I am yours
You are mine
I am yours
You are mine
So it's alright.

Another plate
In the sink
We're half the same
Half distinct
And if you told me I was perfect I'd assume you'd had
Too much to drink.

I am yours
You are mine
I am yours
You are mine
So it's alright.

Another day
Fades away
We're half asleep
Half in space
And if you told me we were dreaming I would pinch you
To prove we're awake.

And if you told me we were dreaming I would pinch you
To prove we're awake.

If you told me we were dreaming I would pinch you
To prove we're awake.

If you told me we were dreaming I would pinch you
To prove we're awake.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Pomplamoose's "Another Day" seemingly capture the mood of someone who’s not fully conscious, evenly balancing between waking and dreaming states. The opening lines, "Another day shows its face, I'm half awake, half in space," establish the surreal, somewhat dream-like atmosphere. The singer is introduced to us dreaming, drifting through his or her day to day activities. They’re not fully present, lost in a thought space, given away by the verses, "And if you told me I was beautiful well that would just be in poor taste… And if you told me I was wonderful, I probably would wonder why." These lines imply that the singer is self-critical and has a hard time seeing the good in themself.

The chorus to the song presents a sharp contrast. "I am yours, you are mine, I am yours, you are mine, so it's alright," hits you directly in the face with an intense feeling of love, telling the listener that all these trials and tribulations are alright, and we’ll still come out whole. This stanza is easily the true meaning of the song, overshadowing all the mental fog the singer has been feeling all day. The song ends with, "If you told me we were dreaming, I would pinch you to prove we're awake." This last line reinforces the idea of the singer's struggle with the distinction between reality and his or her dreams.

This was the first Pomplamoose song I found on YouTube 9 years ago, and it’s still one of my favorites!

well of course i'm stating the obvious: everything about your videos is very clever and pleasant. so talented. love everything about your arrangements/covers.

@jacnc

Years later, I still "picture" this as the song playing under the opening credits/graphics/animation/filmed bits of a rom-com or similar comedy. Sets the mood perfectly.

@rexmage

This music, seeing you two having fun and happy together in the same room makes me so happy.
