In fall 2004, bass player Kaj Kiviniemi and drummer Timo Klinga met each other after starting their studies at Jyväskylä Polytechnic, Finland. The idea of Poor Jim was born in spring 2005, when they realized that they had similar musical ambitions. It was soon decided, that Kaj would handle the guitar and vocals, and an outside bass player would later be recruited for live events.
They started writing songs immediately, but it wasn't until early fall that things really started to move on. The band has now released two demos (download the songs from the bands website) and is currently writing new material.
Mushroom
Poor Jim Lyrics

Going out, but I don't have a name, speak to me. Let me be.
See it all, but nothing's the same. What I see is not real.
You're lying on the floor, living, dying, waiting for the daylight.
Flying out to examine my mind, step aside. Let me hide.
Still afraid of what I might find, I do believe in the trees.
Everybody's gone. It's so damn crowded, debating with the daylight.
A journey all your own--are you crazy, waiting for the past lives.
The lyrics to Poor Jim's song Mushroom are filled with vivid imagery and surrealistic themes of altered states of consciousness. The first two lines describe a person lying on the floor and screaming quietly, possibly alluding to the physical effects of taking psychedelic substances. The repetition of "You've seen it all before" implies that the singer and the person on the floor have been through this experience multiple times.
The next two lines are directed towards someone or something, as the singer pleads for them to "speak to me" and "let me be". The line "See it all, but nothing's the same" suggests that the singer is witnessing something mind-boggling, but they cannot comprehend or trust what they are seeing. They may be grappling with the effects of their own altered state, or encountering something mystical or otherworldly.
The third stanza continues to describe the scene, with the person on the floor now "living, dying, waiting for the daylight". The switch from screaming to waiting implies a shift or maturation in the experience. The singer is also now "flying out to examine my mind", perhaps suggesting feelings of detachment or dissociation. They want to "hide" from whatever is happening and are hesitant to explore their own psyche. However, they still believe in the power of nature ("I do believe in the trees").
The final stanza further emphasizes a sense of isolation and confusion. "Everybody's gone. It's so damn crowded" implies that while many people may be experiencing something similar, each journey is unique and often solitary. The singer questions the wisdom of their choices, wondering if they are "crazy" for waiting for something that has already passed. Overall, the song is a haunting exploration of the human psyche under the influence of a psychedelic substance.

Psilocybin flipped the off switch on my social anxiety like a light switch. It's effect lasted long enough that I thought it permanent. My anxiety and doubts and lack of self worth was gone. Anything that can make you love yourself should be legal
