Providence
Poor Mans Poison Lyrics

But you've gone and cheated on me
Now I'm so lonely
Lonelier that I've been for years
I'm lonelier than I've been for years!
Why am I so lonely?
But I keep on holding back my tears
I'm holding back all my tears!
Take it all together take it all in my stride
Why don't ya love me, no more? No more!
Why don't ya love me, no more? No more!
Why don't ya love me no more, baby...
I'm waiting for you again!
Ya said ya need me
But you've gone and left me far behind
Ya left me all the way over there!
Why don't ya need me, no more? No more!
Why don't ya love me no more?
But I hold back my tears swallow my pride
Take it all together take it all in my stride
Why don't ya love me, no more? No more!
Why don't ya love me, no more? No more!
Why don't ya love me, no more, baby...
I'm waiting for you again!
Ha! Ha! Ha!
The song "Providence" by Poor Man's Poison is a lamentation about lost love, betrayal, and loneliness. The lyrics express the singer's pain and confusion over their partner's infidelity and abandonment. They are questioning why their love isn't returned anymore and why they are left alone to deal with their emotions. Despite the heartbreak, the singer is holding back their tears and swallowing their pride, trying to be strong and cope with the pain. The repetition of the lines "Why don't ya love me more" and "I'm waiting for you again" shows desperation and longing for the lost love.
The song also has a sense of irony as the title "Providence" implies a kind of divine intervention or guidance that the singer is seeking, yet they are left alone with their pain. The laughter at the end of the song feels like bitter laughter, an acknowledgement of the sad state of affairs. The song has a country and folk-inspired sound, with twangy guitar riffs and harmonies that add to the melancholic mood of the lyrics.
Overall, "Providence" is a poignant and relatable song that captures the struggle of dealing with heartbreak and coming to terms with lost love. The singer's vulnerability and the honesty of the lyrics make it a powerful song that many listeners can empathize with.
