The band is lead by song-writer, singer and guitarist Frank Hammersland, former in Pogo Pops. Popium play melodic pop/rock, not unlike the style of Pogo Pops.

The group have been given the label "super group", because all the members have a background in other well known bands from Bergen, like Pogo Pops, Barbie Bones and Chocolate Overdose. However, the members say they're just "some buddies who like the same music".
