Psychotic Reaction
Positively 13 O'Clock Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I feel depressed, I feel so bad
'Cause you're the best girl that I ever had
I can't get your love, I can't get a fraction
Uh-oh, little girl, psychotic reaction
(Shouted) And it feels like this!
I feel so lonely night and day
I can't get your love, I must stay away
I need you girl, by my side
Uh-oh, little girl, would you like to take a ride, now

I can't get your love, I can't get satisfaction
Uh-oh, little girl, psychotic reaction

Overall Meaning

The song "Psychotic Reaction" by Positively 13 O'Clock is a rock song that is about a man's unrequited love for a woman. The lyrics express how depressed and lonely the man feels because he is unable to get the love and attention of the woman he is in love with. He believes that she is the best girl he has ever had, but unfortunately, he cannot get her affection. The line "I can't get your love, I can't get a fraction" shows how desperate he is for her, but he cannot even get a small amount of love from her. As a result, he is experiencing a "psychotic reaction" and is finding it challenging to cope with his emotions.

The chorus of the song is particularly impactful as the lead singer shouts, "And it feels like this!" This line expresses the intensity of the emotions the man is experiencing, and it is almost as if he is losing control over his feelings. He is so enamored with the woman that he cannot help but think about her all day and night. He knows that staying away from her is the right thing to do, but he cannot help but long for her to be by his side. The lyrics, "I need you girl, by my side," demonstrate that he wants her to reciprocate his feelings, but unfortunately, she does not.

In summary, "Psychotic Reaction" is a song about unrequited love and how it can cause a person to become unhinged. It explores the vulnerability and desperation that can arise when one is unable to get the love of their life.

growing up in Dallas, this is the only version we know. Influential 50,000 watt KLIF 1190 who covered all of north Texas and southern Oklahoma played this all the time. I finally heard Count Five's version in the 80's and it sounds uninspired and limp in comparison - and as a result probably why it didn't get Texas airplay. Kudos to the kick @$$ Tyler, Texas garage sound of Robin Hood Bryan's hit making studios. The closing photo with the classic KLIF staff in the studio is a treat. Rabbitt rocks!

One of many utterly stupendous singles on the HBR label. Pitting it against the Count Five original on Double Shot is an exercise in futility, though. They're BOTH great!!

I played the grooves right off my 45! Put it on the turntable, leave the arm on repeat and let it play and play until my folks went nuts.

I love the way Count Fives version begins with each instrument coming in one by one.

Dino Slaughter

Superb! Makes me wonder what would have happened if this version had been the sole release of the song. These guys rock! This is a far cry from you're earlier singles, Jimmy. I love it! Thanks for sharing this with us.

Cool version of a classic 👌

Love it!

I prefer the Count Five version but this one isn't too bad.

DC Kidd

Not bad compared to some other renditions I listened to today (but those were by punks or death heads).  At least this sounds somewhat like Count Five version.

B17b25guy

Superior players and performance compared to that of the Count Five.
