In 2001, Preston School of Industry released All This Sounds Gas, which was recorded mainly in Stockton, California. The album is said to be comprised of the songs that were rejected by Pavement on their final album, Terror Twilight. The band released its second album, Monsoon, in 2004, with studio contributions from members of The Minus 5 and Wilco.
Preston School of Industry went inactive after their September 2004 Australian tour, though Kannberg revealed in late 2006 he had been slowly working on a record: "Don't know when it's going to be released. Just taking my time, nothing special. I've got the songs, I just haven't figured out how I want to do it yet. This winter, I'll probably get it done."
Save Our Happiness
Preston School of Industry Lyrics

I must persist this this time
The unjustified situation you got yourself into my friend
Well the cat's back crawl southern drawl southern yup you kicked the marble hall
Well let it be it be warm let it be cold easy let it be warned
This modern life is not rubbish
What's that say it's our happiness
Well what does that say it's our happiness
Well your hobbit rock encyclopedic knowledge of
The sampled string section keyboard solo
Let it be warm let it be cold let it be easy let it be told
I'm not very
Prophecy sparkly glee commerciality
Well what does that say it's our happiness
Well what does that say it's our happiness
The lyrics of Preston School of Industry's song "Save Our Happiness" are an interesting and cryptic commentary on modern society. The singer opens the song by demanding to talk to someone's supervisor, insisting on persisting until an unjustified situation is resolved. The following lines are a bit more difficult to decipher, with mentions of a cat back crawl, southern drawl, southern yup, and kicking a marble hall. It seems as though the singer is suggesting that despite societal struggles, one should simply let things be - whether it's warm or cold, easy or warned. The phrase "this modern life is not rubbish" stands out as a potential affirmation of the complexities of contemporary times, and the line "what's that say it's our happiness" asks the listener to question what truly makes them happy.
