Sanctus
Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Your angels stand around Your altar
Hear our voices raise
To You alone our Paschal sacrifice
Hear our songs of praise
Sing His praise

Redeemer of mankind vindicator of our suffering
You gave Yourself a gift eternal
To the bread of life we sing
To the bread of life we sing

Holy holy holy holy
Holy Lord God of hosts
Holy holy holy holy
Holy are You Lord
Holy are You Lord
Holy are You Lord
Holy are You Lord

In darkness though we stand You light the way
And our salvation hail
We don't deserve the light of heaven
But still we stand before You
On this altar You prevail

Holy Holy Holy Holy
(Sanctus dominus)
Holy Lord God of Hosts
(Deus sabaoth)
Holy holy holy holy
(Pleni sunt caeli et terra)
Holy are You Lord
Holy are You Lord
(Gloria gloria)
Holy are You Lord
Holy are You Lord
(Gloria gloria)

Heaven and Earth are full of your glory
(Benedictus qui)
Hosannah in the highest
(Venit in nomine)
Blessed is He who comes
In the name of the Lord
(Domini)
Hosannah in the highest
(Hosannah in excelsis)

Holy holy holy holy
Holy Lord God of hosts

Holy holy holy holy
(Sanctus dominus)
Holy Lord God of hosts
(Deus sabaoth)
Holy holy holy holy
(Pleni sunt caeli et terra)
Holy are You Lord
Holy are You Lord
(Gloria gloria)

Holy holy holy holy
(Sanctus dominus)
Holy Lord God of hosts
(Deus sabaoth)
Holy holy holy holy
(Pleni sunt caeli et terra)
Holy are You Lord
Holy are You Lord
(Gloria gloria)
Holy are You Lord

Holy are You Lord

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to the song "Sanctus" by the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter paint a vivid picture of a reverent and sacred worship scene. The opening lines set the stage with imagery of angels surrounding an altar, with voices raised in praise and sacrifice to the divine. This demonstrates a sense of awe and devotion to the holy act taking place.

The next section of the song speaks of the Redeemer of mankind, portraying Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice and source of eternal life. The reference to the "bread of life" echoes the symbolism of the Eucharist in Christianity, where believers partake in the body and blood of Christ. This emphasizes the central role of Jesus in the faith and the gratitude expressed through song and praise.

The repetition of the word "holy" in the chorus adds to the sense of sanctity and reverence in the lyrics. By addressing the Lord as "Holy Lord God of hosts," the song emphasizes the divine and transcendent nature of the deity being worshipped. This section is a declaration of the holiness and greatness of God, inviting listeners to join in the exaltation of the Lord.

The finale of the song expands the scope of praise to encompass both heaven and earth, with a powerful declaration of the glory and blessing bestowed upon the Lord. The repeated refrain of "Holy are You Lord" underscores the central theme of divine holiness and majesty. The incorporation of Latin phrases adds a touch of traditional sacred language, further enhancing the sense of reverence and devotion in the song. Overall, "Sanctus" serves as a profound expression of worship and adoration towards the divine presence.

In Masses for the Dead the foregoing prayer is said but the water is not blessed.
Then the Priest takes the Chalice and offers it saying:
OFFERIMUS tibi Domine calicem salutaris deprecantes clementiam : ut in conspectu divinae Majestatis tuae pro nostra Et totius mundi salute cum odore suavitatis ascendat. Amen.
WE offer unto Thee O Lord the chalice of salvation beseeching Thy clemency that it may ascend before Thy divine Majesty as a sweet odor for our salvation and for that of the whole world. Amen.

The Priest makes the sign of the Cross with the Chalice places it upon the Corporal and covers it with the pall. Then with his hands joined upon the Altar and slightly bowing down he says:
In Spiritu humilitatis Et in animo contrito susciptamur a te Domine : Et sic fiat Sacrificium nostrum in conspectu tuo hodie ut placeat tibi Domine Deus.
ACCEPT us O Lord in the spirit of humility and contrition of heart and grant that the Sacrifice which we offer this day in Thy sight may be pleasing to Thee O Lord God.

Raising his eyes towards heaven extending and then joining his hands the Priest makes the sign of the Cross over the host and the chalice while he says:
VENI Sanctificator omnipotens aeterne Deus : Et bene+dic hoc Sacrificium tuo Sancto Nomini praeparatum.
COME O Almighty and Eternal Gor the Sanctifier and bless + this Sacrifice prepared for the glory of Thy holy Name.

At Solemn Masses the Prest blesses the incense saying the following prayers:
PER INTERCESSIONEM BEATI Michaelis ArchAngeli stantis a Dextrus Altaris incensi Et omnium Electorum suorum incensum stud dignetur Dominus bene+dicere Et in odorem suavitatis accipere. Per Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen.
MAY the Lord by the intercession of the blessed Michael the ArchAngel who standeth at the right side of the Altar f perfumes and of all His Elect vouchsafe to bless + this incense and receive it as an odor of sweetness ; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

If you going into Priesthood it's essential you understand the Mass.
The First prayer Introibo ad altar Deum I will go onto the altar of God to God Who gives joy to my youth " psalm 42 what's happening It is God the Son conversing with God the Father in eternity about His Passover in time. Psalm 2 is the Father to the Son. The Lamb had to be without spot or wrinkle that prayer is said too. Jesus and His Apostles attended the Temple on the night of Jewish Passover these Passover prayers that were said were about His death and are Perpetual The Gentiles received these Passover prayers from the Apostles This Priesthood goes back to Melchizedek an eternal priesthood. These Prayers are perpetual until end of time and can't be abandoned. The Gentiles prayers can be altered.
The Jews said "We have no King but Caesar" under a valid Pope they will go but with this Jewish Passover worship. The Jews had true worship. Lefebvre, Castro Meyer and another are right. No Pope will ever change Calvary.

I will pray for your priesthood! Holy Mother Church has another priest!

@LVCIVSTVLLIVSATELLVS

The extreme reverence shown in the consecration is very moving to me. I wish all priests would show this due reverence. For this reason (among many other reasons), I an 18 year old boy going to college am seriously discerning the priesthood, and am seriously looking into becoming a priest within FSSP. As of right now, I cannot see myself being anything but a priest, but nevertheless I will go through extensive prayer to discern for what God is calling me.

@tenplauges

Well, didja?

@actusspei6688

@Kennnnyy__

I’ll bump this ten years later. What did you career path end up choosing? 😊

@rorypinata265

I hope you did look into that possible vocation, it would be the most fulfilling and greatest part of your life.
