Born and raised in Minneapolis, Prince signed a record deal with Warner Bros. Records at the age of 19, soon releasing the albums For You (1978) and Prince (1979). He went on to achieve critical success with the influential albums Dirty Mind (1980), Controversy (1981), and 1999 (1982). His sixth album, Purple Rain (1984), was recorded with his new backing band the Revolution, and was also the soundtrack to the film of the same name in which he starred. Purple Rain garnered continued success for Prince and was a major commercial achievement, spending six consecutive months atop the Billboard 200 chart. The soundtrack also won Prince the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. After disbanding the Revolution, Prince released the album Sign o' the Times (1987), widely hailed by critics as the greatest work of his career. In the midst of a contractual dispute with Warner Bros. in 1993, he changed his stage name to the unpronounceable symbol logo. Hollow circle above downward arrow crossed with a curlicued horn-shaped symbol and then a short bar (known to fans as the "Love Symbol") and was often referred to as The Artist Formerly Known as Prince (or TAFKAP) or simply The Artist.
After signing with Arista Records in 1998, Prince reverted to his original name in 2000. Over the next decade, six of his albums entered the U.S. top 10 charts. In April 2016, at the age of 57, Prince died after accidentally overdosing on fentanyl at his Paisley Park home and recording studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota. He was a prolific musician who released 39 albums during his life, with a vast array of unreleased material left in a custom-built bank vault underneath his home after his death, including fully completed albums and over 50 finished music videos. He also released songs under multiple pseudonyms during his life, as well as writing songs that were made popular after being covered by other musicians, most notably "Nothing Compares 2 U" by SinΓ©ad O'Connor and "Manic Monday" by the Bangles. Estimates of the complete number of songs written by Prince range anywhere from 500 to well over 1,000. Released posthumously, his demo albums Piano and a Microphone 1983 (2018) and Originals (2019) both received critical acclaim.
Prince sold over 100 million records worldwide, ranking him among the best-selling music artists of all time. His awards included the Grammy President's Merit Award, the American Music Awards for Achievement and of Merit, the Billboard Icon Award, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe Award. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006, and the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2016, and was inducted twice into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame in 2022.

Insatiable
Prince Lyrics

My
My-y-y
Love-y-y-y-y
Ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Love
Strike a candle
No one that I've ever
Knows how to handle
My body
The way you truly do
Insatiable's my name, when it comes to you
I got a Jones, Martha
Oh yeah, it be like this
(I can't have a hug) I can't have a hug (unless)
Unless I have a kiss, ooh
My body, baby, you truly do
Insatiable's my name when it comes to you
Like a wildcat, Martha, in a celibate rage
I want your love, in my dirty little cage
Can you understand, Martha?
Whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo
My body, baby, you truly do
Insatiable's my name when it comes to you
Tonight we video
No one will ever know
We'll erase the naughty bits
I'll show my-
If you show your-
I can't help it, Martha
(Instatiable) I can't help what you do to me
You are
My every fantasy
There's no telling how far I'd go
'Cause when it comes to you, I know
I'm insatiable and I just can't stop
Even if I wasn't thirsty I would drink every drop
Please, baby, don't say no
'Cause I'll surely go
Crazy
Okay
So all you do, is push the little red button
And I belong to you
And your little video box
Hey, don't look at the clock, yeah
It's two forty-five
We got all night
First you gotta tell me what you want me to do
My body, baby, you truly do
Insatiable's my name when it comes to you
There's no tellin' how far I'd go (this is true)
'Cause when it comes to you, I know
I'm insatiable and I just can't stop
Even if I wasn't thirsty I would drink every drop
So take it slow baby, and let's unwind
Do you really want all my clothes off? (yes)
What are you gonna do to prove it then? (ooh-ooh-ooh)
Aren't you afraid we're gonna be found out?
Well, let's get on with the show
Turn the lights down low (lower)
Doesn't my body look good in the shadows?
Baby knows what to do
Have you done this before?
(I don't know)
You say you want my hips up in the air? (yeah)
I don't know, I don't care
Ooh, My body, baby, you truly do
I know I could be nasty with you
(Oh, oh , oh, oh, oh, oh, aah!)
Up and down, just like a seesaw (back and forth)
(Back and forth)
Listen (oh girl, I'm fallin') I love you, baby
I love you baby
You're mine
You're nastier than I thought
It's just two forty-nine
In "Insatiable," Prince poetically confesses his hunger and desire for his lover, using sensual language and provocative imagery. "Turn the lights off, strike a candle," he sings, setting the mood for a steamy encounter. He admits that no one else has ever been able to handle his body like his lover can. He also reveals that he's insatiable when it comes to them. He uses the name of the song to describe how insatiable he is.
Prince alludes to watching pornography with his lover, saying that they will "erase the naughty bits" on their video before watching it. He also references wanting to be locked up in a cage while his lover satisfies his carnal desires. Throughout the song, Prince uses language that's both sensual and borderline explicit to convey his strong attraction to his lover. He even asks his lover if they want all his clothes off and admits that he could be "nasty" with them.
The song's repetition of the word "insatiable" hints at the song's theme, which is Prince's insatiable hunger and desire for his lover. Moreover, the song's structure reflects how Prince's insatiable thirst cannot be quenched. The song has an extended running time of nearly ten minutes-long, which adds to the feeling of insatiability that he's conveying in the song.
