Born and raised in Minneapolis, Prince signed a record deal with Warner Bros. Records at the age of 19, soon releasing the albums For You (1978) and Prince (1979). He went on to achieve critical success with the influential albums Dirty Mind (1980), Controversy (1981), and 1999 (1982). His sixth album, Purple Rain (1984), was recorded with his new backing band the Revolution, and was also the soundtrack to the film of the same name in which he starred. Purple Rain garnered continued success for Prince and was a major commercial achievement, spending six consecutive months atop the Billboard 200 chart. The soundtrack also won Prince the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. After disbanding the Revolution, Prince released the album Sign o' the Times (1987), widely hailed by critics as the greatest work of his career. In the midst of a contractual dispute with Warner Bros. in 1993, he changed his stage name to the unpronounceable symbol logo. Hollow circle above downward arrow crossed with a curlicued horn-shaped symbol and then a short bar (known to fans as the "Love Symbol") and was often referred to as The Artist Formerly Known as Prince (or TAFKAP) or simply The Artist.
After signing with Arista Records in 1998, Prince reverted to his original name in 2000. Over the next decade, six of his albums entered the U.S. top 10 charts. In April 2016, at the age of 57, Prince died after accidentally overdosing on fentanyl at his Paisley Park home and recording studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota. He was a prolific musician who released 39 albums during his life, with a vast array of unreleased material left in a custom-built bank vault underneath his home after his death, including fully completed albums and over 50 finished music videos. He also released songs under multiple pseudonyms during his life, as well as writing songs that were made popular after being covered by other musicians, most notably "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Sinéad O'Connor and "Manic Monday" by the Bangles. Estimates of the complete number of songs written by Prince range anywhere from 500 to well over 1,000. Released posthumously, his demo albums Piano and a Microphone 1983 (2018) and Originals (2019) both received critical acclaim.
Prince sold over 100 million records worldwide, ranking him among the best-selling music artists of all time. His awards included the Grammy President's Merit Award, the American Music Awards for Achievement and of Merit, the Billboard Icon Award, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe Award. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006, and the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2016, and was inducted twice into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame in 2022.

Prince Lyrics

Now thinks this life is his
What a graceless love
Mark my words, come night
He'll sport his cloak and scythe
Armed with painless drugs
Free me from this burn
Bugs and rodents
Some days?
...Feels like Always
I'm really trying to avoid you
Or at least a little bit
Okay not really i admit
You always find your way back in
SOMETHING SPECIAL
I heard you coming
So i ran the other way
Well it's been so long
And i can't bare another day
The all wise night
Even in broad daylight
As if a puppeteer,
He whispers in my ear
You goddamn kids!
I'm the son of a bitch
Who makes it hard to sleep
And I'm never gonna leave!
Dear god,
Just leave
It is important to note that the opening line of the song, "Jesus Christ ate shit," is not meant to be taken in a literal sense. Rather, it is a metaphor for the struggles that Jesus faced during his time on earth. The following lines suggest that despite his hardships, Jesus understands the value of life and the importance of empathy and compassion for others. The reference to a "cloak and scythe" implies a representation of death, but the line "armed with painless drugs" seems to suggest that death can be gentle and peaceful.
The next set of lyrics appear to be spoken from the perspective of someone who is struggling with addiction or mental health issues. They feel trapped and overwhelmed, and their judgement is clouded by their struggles. The line "some days? ...Feels like Always" suggests that this person feels stuck in their situation and cannot see a way out.
The song transitions to "Something Special," which appears to be a separate section of the overall piece. The lyrics describe someone who is running away from a difficult situation or person, only to be confronted by them again. The "all wise night" is a personification of the darkness and negativity that surrounds the singer, and the line "I'm never gonna leave!" implies that this struggle will continue indefinitely.
Overall, the song seems to be grappling with themes of struggle, perseverance, and finding hope in difficult situations.

You know how many he would brought to Jesus Christ! They got him out of the way. God's still coming out ahead! Thank you Prince for it all!

Yeah, makes me a bit sad that he fell for the JW teachings though. I unfortunately was born into that "religion" well, cult really... I was the happiest 12 year old the first year we were officially OUT of the "TRUTH" or "The LIE" should I say and I was able to celebrate Christmas for the first time EVER. I never bought what they were trying to sell me. I DO believe in Christ and that he DID die for our sins. However, my Father was disfellowshiped (more like SHUNNED) for smoking cigarettes and that was psychologically damaging to a child my age. I was very cut off and sheltered from the "worldly people" (a.k.a. anyone who was NOT a JW). Not to mention a whole lot of disinformation being taught in the Kingdom Hall. For one - the man who started the religion (Charles Rutherford)was a Freemason who has a pyramid as a headstone with all the symbols the Masons used. So right there should have been a HUGE red light for Brother Nelson - and that's just the tip of the iceberg... I will say, that in their defense that they are some of the nicest, cleanest people that you'll ever meet. But so many of their teachings are wrong. And, it's true that many "Christian" holidays DO have their origins in Pagan Roman beliefs. I.E. Constantine was the first Emperor turned "Pope" - I guess and he didn't want to drastically change all polycystic Roman beliefs and holidays, so he incorporated the Jewish traditions with their own. Thus the "Sabbath Day" was changed to worshipping on Sunday - not Saturday - as SUNday was also a day reserved for Apollo who was the SUN God. It makes perfect sense as it is called SUNday - not "SON"day which would sound even more Christian... There are many other examples of course, but if I wrote about all of the ones I am familiar with - this comment would be even longer than it is already! I'm a bit surprised that he chose to choose a religion that was so opposed to him in the first place. However, it did SOMETHING for him and honestly as long as you are buying all of their literature and filling the collection box - which they always make such a big fuss about not actually 'passing it around' as they do in most churches (and they NEVER refer to themselves as 'churches') - however they DO let you know that the donation box is in the back for tithing 😉! You keep those donations flowing and they get away A LOT more than if you DIDN'T. I know, I saw it even as a child. Sexual abuse much like the Catholic Church when they had a really bad time of it - is rampant and when something of this nature comes up - the JW's like to handle it internally rather than treating it like the crime it is and telling the parents or if it's the child's parents who are accused of one of THE most heinous crimes there is - they encourage the child to bring it before the "Elders". So, right there - that's just wrong. Well, he's at peace now and he gave us SO much - I've nothing but gratitude that he really went out on a limb to share some of the most awesome music I've ever had the privilege to enjoy... R.I.P. Purple One... I bet you're surprised that there really IS a heaven above! Not just "the common grave" like the Witnesses told you! 😍😘😁
