Your parents did you a great service! I’m glad my folks gave me a decent musical education—Mom practically hammered the Beatles into my head and I’m grateful she did. My 16 year old is glad to be the child of Gen X parents. (I graduated high school in ‘93, my ex in ‘91; we met in college.) She loves the music and style of the 80’s and early 90’s, and I’ve noticed she’s far from the only one in the younger generations who are fascinated by our generation’s youth.
She was supposed to have gone to the Depeche Mode concert with me in April but had to miss ☹️; I still went, and was pleased—but honestly not terribly surprised—to see so many younger people there. But, like Prince, they are eternally cool.

I listened to Prince over the years but wasn't what I would call a diehard fan. When I saw him coming to NJ back in 2004 I thought, let's go see Prince, he is an Icon so I bought tickets. We get to the facility and unlike every other concert I've been to, the stage is right in the center of the facility, smack dab in the center just like it would be for a boxing match. Then I see the staff is going up and down the isles selling champagne and people are dressed to the nines. Then, who opens the show unannounced, Morris Day and the Time. I'm a happy camper. The Prince part of the concert, that man gave us every ounce of energy he had that night. To say I was in awe would be a complete understatement. I've been to tons of concerts but nothing and no one came close to the performance of Prince that night. I often see people ask in a post who is the greatest guitarist. If you've seen Prince live you would know and I've been around for a while. I do believe what others have said, he came from a difference place.

Sheena Easton nailed it. The story goes that Prince asked her to come in to sing backup for this song, but he was so impressed with her vocal ability, he made it a duet. She even said, "'U Got The Look' was a track he'd basically finished for himself. It was just a Prince track. He said, 'Do you want to just come in and sing some backup vocals on the choruses?' So I went into the studio, and because I didn't know I was singing against him...I was all over the place - and he said he kind of liked that, so he expanded it into a duet."
Prince always had an eye for talent. He wrote songs that others made famous, he brought in some excellent musicians over the years...the quintessential professional, if I dare say.

Absolutely spot on fucking assessment if you ask me. The man was born to be a musician and if the narrow minded shallow people are able to look past his appearance and showmanship as "gay" then they would realise that too. The man was all about the music and made masterpieces in every single way possible at the time and brought in others every time he could to make it exactly what it needed to be instead of making sacrifices to the music for ego or image sake.

what he didn't said in interviews (and what has come to light since) is that he was writing songs for females because he was interested in them: suzanna hoffs, stevie nicks, apollonia, vanity, carmen electra, etc...not sure about sheila e. though. atleast he has good taste in women.

She also challenged him when he said he could write a song about anything. George Clinton of Parliament was next door in the studio recording Atomic Dog & she said write about a dog & a cat & Prince wrote Lala la He he he. He was a Genius!

Age 3 my dad used to listen to prince when we were in the car, first memory…. My love for prince stuck around longer than he did 😂 but I’m so thankful for passing me his love for prince to me 🙏🩷
