Early life
Pritam was born in Kolkata into a Bengali family. Pritam is the son of Prabodh Chakraborty, who runs a music school for children. Pritam gained his early training in music from his father and learned to play the guitar while still in school.
After completing his schooling at St. James' School and college education at Presidency College, he went to a music school. At Presidency he was the Social Services Secretary of the Students Union run by the Independents' Consolidation (IC). Pritam joined a Bangla band, Chandrabindoo. Before that he formed another band with his Presidency batchmates, called "Jotugriher Pakhi". They even have a cassette released to their credit at that time. In January 1993, Pritam joined the Film and Television Institute in Pune to undertake a course in sound recording and sound engineering. During this time, he was offered a chance to compose background music for a film by Hungarian filmmaker Istvan Gaal. He also learned African music from musicologist Kedar Avati.
Career
Having completed his education, Pritam Chakraborty moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in Bollywood. During his stay in Mumbai, he began composing ad jingles, and became friendly with a number of other young men struggling to make it big, like Shantanu Moitra, Rajkumar Hirani, Sanjay Gadhvi and Chandrajeet Ganguly, also known as Jeet, who played the guitar with Anup Jalota.
Pritam got his first break when Gadhvi was signed on to direct Tere Liye and he, in turn, signed on his friends Jeet and Pritam as music composers. Though the music was well received, the film sank at the box office. However, in 2002 Yashraj Films signed Gadhvi up to direct Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, for which the Jeet-Pritam duo once again composed the music. All the songs from that movie were chartbusters, and the duo had hit the big time. His music comprises various kinds including Indian classical music and western influences. Pritam was then actively involved in mentoring and judging new talent on Zee TV's singing competition show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2009.
[edit] Solo career
Jeet and Pritam worked together for only one more film which was Mudda-The Issue, before amicably parting. After the separation, Pritam's career as a solo musician stalled as he signed a series of flops like Fun2shh - Dudes In The 10th Century and Agnipankh. The films sank at the box office and with them, Pritam’s music too. However, in 2004, Pritam composed the music for Sanjay Gadhvi's second film, Dhoom, which was a runaway success. The film did well and the music topped the charts.
Pritam followed up the success of Dhoom with a string of chartbusting numbers after a year for Chocolate, Garam Masala and Gangster. Also he composed the music for Dhoom 2, the sequel to [Dhoom] & Life in a Metro. Most recently he composed the music for Singh Is Kinng, Kismat Konnection and formed a Band named Metro. His most top rated musics are from the movies Dhoom, Dhoom2, Gangster, Life in a metro, Jab we met, Race, Billu, Love Aaj Kal, Golmaal Returns, Tum Mile, Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani, De Dana Dan, Toh Baat Pakki, Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?, Badmaash Company and more.

Teri Jhuki Nazar
Pritam Lyrics

Bhale chup tu rehna
Mujhe hai pata, tere pyar ka
Khamosh chehra, ankhon pe pehra
Khud hai gawaah, tere pyar ka
Teri jhuki nazar, teri har ada
Mujhe keh rahi hai ye dastaan
Tere zehan-o-dil pe hai chha gaya
Teri jhuki nazar, teri har ada
Mujhe keh rahi hai ye dastaan
Teri zulf jab bhi bikhar jaati hai
Aye haseen tu haseen aur ho jaati hai
Jo kitaabo me padhte rahe aaj tak
Woh pari humko tujh mein nazar aati hai
Teri hi baahon mein, panaahon mein
Rehna mujhe hardum sada
Teri hi yaadon mein, nigaahon mein
Rehna mujhe har dum sada
Teri hi baahon me, panaahon me
Rehna mujhe hardum sada
Hardum sada
Chaahe kuch na kehna
Bhale chup tu rehna
Mujhe hai pata tere pyar ka
Khamosh chehra, aankhon pe pehra
Khud hai gawaah, tere pyar ka
Teri jhuki nazar, teri har ada
Mujhe keh rahi hai ye dastaan
Koi shaqs hai jo ki in dinon
Tere zehan-o-dil pe hai chha gaya
Teri jhuki nazar, teri har ada
Mujhe keh rahi hai ye dastaan
The lyrics of Pritam's song Teri Jhuki Nazar are a declaration of love from one person to another. The opening lines of the song express the understanding that sometimes words are not necessary in a relationship. The singer acknowledges that even if the object of their affection is quiet or hesitant in expressing their emotions, they still know that love is present. The idea is reinforced with the lines, "Khamosh chehra, ankhon pe pehra, Khud hai gawaah, tere pyar ka," which mean that the silent face and watchful eyes are evidence of the love the other person has for them.
The main refrain of the song, "Teri Jhuki Nazar, teri har ada, mujhe keh rahi hai ye dastaan," speaks of how the way the other person looks at the singer and their every gesture (ada) indicates a story (dastaan) of love. The song is a tribute to the impact the other person has on the singer's life both in terms of their thoughts and feelings, as well as their physical presence. The reference to the person becoming lost in the singer's embrace and their memories is a potent indication of how consuming their love is.
Overall, the poignant lyrics of Teri Jhuki Nazar express the depth of love felt by the singer who finds solace, comfort, and meaning in being in the other person's embrace.

Chaahe kuch na kehna
Even if you don't say anything
Bhale chup tu rehna
Even if you remain silent
Mujhe hai pata, tere pyar ka
I know about your love
Khamosh chehra, ankhon pe pehra
With a silent face and guarded eyes
Khud hai gawaah, tere pyar ka
Witness to your love myself
Teri jhuki nazar, teri har ada
Your lowered gaze, your every move
Mujhe keh rahi hai ye dastaan
Telling me this story
Koi shaqs hai jo ki in dinon
There is someone in these days
Tere zehan-o-dil pe hai chha gaya
Who has taken over your thoughts and heart
Teri zulf jab bhi bikhar jaati hai
Whenever your hair falls loose
Aye haseen tu haseen aur ho jaati hai
Oh beautiful, you become more beautiful
Jo kitaabo me padhte rahe aaj tak
What we have read in books until now
Woh pari humko tujh mein nazar aati hai
We see those fairies in you
Teri hi baahon mein, panaahon mein
In your arms, in your shelter
Rehna mujhe hardum sada
I want to stay there forever
Teri hi yaadon mein, nigaahon mein
In your memories, in your eyes
Rehna mujhe har dum sada
I want to stay there always
Teri hi baahon me, panaahon me
In your arms, in your shelter
Rehna mujhe hardum sada
I want to stay there forever
Hardum sada
Always
