Overall Meaning

In "Back to the Garrison," Prodigal Son highlights the issues faced by the people living in the ghettos of Jamaica, especially the prevalence of drugs, guns, and thugs that are ruining their lives. The people look up to him as their "ghetto pastor," and he feels responsible for the well-being of his community. He urges his fellow Christians to join him and work together to bring positive change. He also calls upon specific pastors to lead different parts of his community, like Pastor Blair for Tivoli Garden and Al Miller for Jungle. He envisions a future where the people from his community would no longer pretend to be something they are not and would work together to defend their souls and take back their garrison.

Through the song, the artist tries to emphasize that change must come from within, and it's time for the radical Christians to take back the streets. Prodigal Son urges his fellow community members to embrace God and turn away from crime, violence, and excessive drinking. He encourages them to find solace in the church and come together for a good cause. The song ends on a hopeful note, with the artist mentioning different pastors and evangelists who could spread God's word and make a positive impact on Jamaican society.
