Better Man
Project One feat. Pearl Jam Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Waitin', watchin' the clock
It's four o'clock, it's got to stop
Tell him, "Take no more"
She practices her speech
As he opens the door, she rolls over
Pretends to sleep as he looks her over

She lies and says she's in love with him
Can't find a better man
She dreams in color, she dreams in red
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man
Oh

Talkin' to herself
There's no one else who needs to know
She tells herself, oh
Memories back when she was bold and strong
And waiting for the world to come along
Swears she knew it, now she swears he's gone

She lies and says she's in love with him
Can't find a better man
She dreams in color, she dreams in red
Can't find a better man
She lies and says she still loves him
Can't find a better man
She dreams in color, she dreams in red
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man

She loved him, yeah
She don't want to leave this way
She feeds him, yeah
That's why she'll be back again

Can't find a better man (can't find a better man)
Can't find a better man (can't find a better man)

Can't find a better man (can't find a better man)
Can't find a better man

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Project One feat. Pearl Jam's song Better Man tell the story of a woman who is trapped in a relationship with a man who doesn't treat her well. She is waiting for him to come home, pretending to be asleep as he looks at her. The woman lies to herself and says she is in love with him, but deep down she knows that she deserves better. She remembers a time when she was strong and independent, but now she feels trapped.

The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "Can't find a better man," emphasizing the woman's feeling of being stuck in a relationship with no way out. She dreams in color and she dreams in red, perhaps representing the passion and intensity she once felt in her life, but now feels trapped in a dull existence with a man who doesn't appreciate her.

The final verse of the song suggests that the woman will continue to stay in the relationship, even though she knows it's not healthy, because she loves him and feels responsible for him. The repetition of the chorus at the end reinforces the idea that she feels like she has no other option.

Post has some good taste in music. Between that and his personality, he’s what my late Grandfather would call a “pretty good fella”.
