Arabesque
Pronto Mama Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Last night brought by new tides
Back to front and side to side
Speaking feels uneasy
We're not seeing eye to eye

You act so cold
And I feel less bold
I cannae wait for a rainy day
So you can feel this blue
I didn't really want to leave you

This time I was half right
I'll just act like I never knew you
Last night acting uptight
Well, I was me then and you were you

Keep me in the picture
Hide your scissors and find the glue
A weeping ballerina
Starved herself just to fill her shoes
A traveling fortuneteller brought news
I always feel a little weak
And you never lose
You're so intelligent, I feel irrelevant

This time I was half right
I'll just act like I never knew you
Last night acting uptight
Well, I was me then and you were you

This time I was half right
I'll just act like I never knew you
Last night acting uptight
Well, I was me then and you were you

This time I was half right
This time I was half right

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Pronto Mama's song Arabesque express a sense of confusion and uncertainty in a relationship. The singer describes feeling disconnected from their partner, as if they are not on the same page. The imagery of "new tides" and being pulled "back to front and side to side" adds to the feeling of instability and unpredictability. The line "Speaking feels uneasy" suggests that there is tension and perhaps a lack of communication between the two.

The chorus of the song expresses a sense of resignation and acceptance. The singer acknowledges that they were only "half right" in their expectations of the relationship and that they will "act like [they] never knew" their partner. The repetition of the line "Last night acting uptight / Well, I was me then and you were you" emphasizes the idea that the two are fundamentally different and may never be able to fully understand each other.

The second verse of the song introduces more surreal imagery, from the "weeping ballerina" to the "traveling fortuneteller." These images suggest a sense of displacement and disorientation, which mirrors the singer's emotional state. The line "You're so intelligent, I feel irrelevant" speaks to feelings of inadequacy and insecurity. Overall, the lyrics to Arabesque depict a relationship that is shifting and uncertain, with the singer struggling to find a sense of stability and understanding.
