Wuthering Heights
Puppini Sisters The Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Out on the wiley, windy moors
We'd roll and fall in green.
You had a temper like my jealousy:
Too hot, too greedy.
How could you leave me,
When I needed to possess you?
I hated you. I loved you, too.
Bad dreams in the night
They told me I was going to lose the fight,
Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering
Wuthering Heights.

Heathcliff, don't you know that it's me, it's Cathy, I've come home.
I'm so cold, let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it's me, Cathy, I've come home.
I'm so cold, let me in-a-your window.

Ooh, it gets dark! It gets lonely,
On the other side from you.
I pine a lot. I find the lot
Falls through without you.
I'm coming back, love,
Cruel Heathcliff, my one dream,
My only master.

Too long I roamed in the night.
I'm coming back to his side, to put it right.
Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering
Wuthering Heights,

Heathcliff, don't you know that it's me, it's Cathy, I've come home.
I'm so cold, let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, don't you know that it's me, it's Cathy, I've come home.
I'm so cold, let me in-a-your window.

Ooh! Let me have it.
Let me grab your soul away.
Ooh! Let me have it.
Let me grab your soul away.
You know it's me--Cathy!

Heathcliff, don't you know that it's me, it's Cathy, I've come home.
I'm so cold, let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, don't you know that it's me, it's Cathy, I've come home.
I'm so cold, let me in-a-your window.
Let me in-a-your window
Let me in-a-your window

Let me in-a-your window
Let me in-a-your window

Overall Meaning

In this song, the Puppini Sisters tell the story of Cathy, who is desperately wanting Heathcliff back, and feels lonely and lost without him. In the first verse, they describe the moors and the green fields where they used to spend time together, but now Cathy is left feeling incomplete without him. She speaks of how much she hated him for leaving her, but also loved him at the same time. The chorus then brings up the bad dreams that Cathy experiences, where she is losing the fight and has to leave behind her "wuthering" (wild and tumultuous) existence at Wuthering Heights.

In the second verse, Cathy addresses Heathcliff directly, pleading with him to let her back into his life. She refers to herself as his "one dream" and laments how dark and lonely life is without him. She promises to come back to his side and put things right, leaving the tumultuous past behind. The final bridge is a repetition of Cathy's plea to let her in, to have her grab his soul away, and finally, her desperate request to be let in through his window.
