Who Wants To Live Forever
Queen & Seal Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's no time for us
There's no place for us
What is this thing that builds our dreams
Yet slips away from us?

Who wants to live forever?
Who wants to live forever?
There's no chance for us
It's all decided for us
This world has only one
Sweet moment set aside for us

Who wants to live forever?
Who wants to live forever?
Who?

Who dares to love forever
Oh, when love must die?

But touch my tears with your lips
Touch my world with your fingertips

And we can have forever
And we can love forever
Forever is our today

Who wants to live forever?
Who wants to live forever?
Forever is our today

Who waits forever anyway?

Overall Meaning

Queen and Seal's "Who Wants to Live Forever" is a poignant and haunting medley of emotions that grapples with the idea of mortality and the transience of human life. The lyrics start by lamenting that there is no time or place for human beings, and question the ephemeral nature of our dreams which often slip away unnoticed. The song pleads with listeners to answer two major questions: "Who wants to live forever?" and "Who dares to love forever when love must die?"

The lyrics then explore the idea of a shared moment of bliss that exists in the world around us but is ultimately fleeting. The song seems to present this euphoric moment as something that makes life worth living, and mourns the fact that it is always followed by inevitable tragedy. However, the song finds hope in the idea that two people can find a way to overcome their mortality and enjoy the moment forever. The lyrics urge the listener to "touch my tears with your lips" and "touch my world with your fingertips" so that they can experience eternity together.

In the end, the song concludes that forever is simply "our today" and questions why anyone would wait for it to come when we have the power to create it in each moment. The song serves as a poignant reminder that time is fleeting and that life is precious, and urges listeners to find connection and love in the present rather than waiting for an elusive future.

I've never seen Roger hitting his kit so hard and loud. The way he puts his whole heart and energy playing is just... unbelievable... Nobody will never replace Freddie. However Seal sang it in his own way... And it sounds great I think.

Seeing the pain on both Brian’s and Roger’s faces just kill me. Imagine them seeing someone else sing this song knowing that Fred will never sing it again here. Every time they look up, he’s not there. And even though they knew that he didn’t have much time left, it still hurts them. This is such a hauntingly beautiful performance by all of them...

It should be remembered that there is also a bass player, not only Roger and Brian
