Someone
Queens of the Stone Age Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Once you're lost in taillight's blue
You don't find your way, the way finds you...

Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...

So glad you could stay
Forever

He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand

You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..

So glad you could stay
Forever

Overall Meaning

"Someone's in the Wolf" is a cryptic and mysterious song that keeps the listener on edge with its raw energy and gritty sound. The beginning of the song begins with a reflection on being lost, and how once you are lost in the blue of the taillights, you don't find your way, the way finds you. This is possibly a metaphor for being lost in life or following a path that you did not intend to take. The next set of lyrics warns the listener to beware of a smile that hides all the teeth. It suggests that there may be deception, and someone may be hiding their true intentions behind a friendly facade.

As the song progresses, a man steps between the trees and is described as crooked. He is holding a blade with blood on it, an ominous sign that suggests violence or murder. The listener is warned not to take his hand. This could be a warning against being lured into danger or accepting help from someone with ill intentions. In the final verse, the listener is warmed by a firelight, but the shadows on the wall creep and dance, and the crooked man is still creeping too. The unsettling imagery of shadows and the crooked man continue the ominous tone.

Overall, the lyrics to "Someone's in the Wolf" suggest the danger and potential for violence lurking just beneath the surface of everyday life. It is a warning to be wary of those who may hide their true nature behind a smile or friendly facade.

I love how Queens of the Stone Age still enables comments. My daughter looked it up for me today. They've been around 26 years at least. Still my favorite band, and I'm 39. Everything they produce just glows.

The best Queens song ever.... and a brilliant video!!

What a great song! Someone's in the Wolf is sleeper hit for QOTSA. Clocking in at over seven minutes it was never meant for radio play, just bad-ass rocking and rolling.
