Dear Miami
RÛisÌn Murphy Lyrics

You can be so self-absorbed
Behind those eyes, no disguise
Disguise, no you can't disguise
Behind this fortress of an address
Stuck in the passion void
With a little style full and for a while
Dear Miami, you're the first to go
Disappearing under melting snow
Each and everyone turn your critical eye
On the burning sun and try not to cry
Strictly rolling V.I.P.
Strictly rolling V.I.P.
We got it all
If the empire ever falls
We got all control, untold power to
Do what we wanna do
We got the moves
But there's nothing left to prove
There's only stardust memories
We can make 'em true
Dear Miami, you're the first to go
Disappearing under melting snow
Each and everyone, turn your critical eye
On the burning sun and try not to cry
Dear Miami, you're the first to go
Disappearing under melting snow
Each and everyone, turn your critical eye
From the burning sun and try not to cry
Merry-go-round again
A carousel
Passionate raid
An escapade, adventures eve
Strictly rolling V.I.P.

The lyrics to RÛisÌn Murphy's song "Dear Miami" delve into the idea of living in a self-centered world, where one can become absorbed in their own identity and status. The first verse describes being "behind these walls" and "stuck in the passion void," highlighting the singer's isolation and detachment from real-life experiences. They also suggest that there is no disguising this self-absorption, despite efforts to do so. The second verse continues this theme, describing their "fortress of an address" and hinting at the excesses and control that come with their privileged lifestyle, underpinned by the chorus's repeated refrain of "Strictly rolling V.I.P.".
The chorus, directed at Miami as a metaphor for this world of excess, refers to its vulnerability, predicting its first to "go" due to climate change and "melting snow". This suggests that those living in this world, including the singer, are complicit in its destruction and must "turn [their] critical eye" towards the "burning sun" and its impact.
The final verse features more allusions to a glamorous lifestyle, with references to a "Merry-go-round," "carousel," and "escapade." These images are paired with the repeated refrain, further emphasizing the insular nature of the lifestyle they inhabit.
Overall, the lyrics of "Dear Miami" suggest a cautionary tale of self-centeredness and greed, questioning the morality of living in excess at the expense of others and the environment.

Without a doubt, she is one of the coolest women on this planet, the next planet, and the one after that too!

I have met her, and I assure you, she is.

It’s unbelievable how underrated Róisín Murphy is. This song is literally perfect to my ears.
@krzysztofmilewski4742
I agree. In a normal world, her "Overpowered" album would have been massive. Never understood it's commercial failure. Her new stuff is obviously much more niche, still good though.
@TheRemixGeneration
underrated by whose standards?!
@dnbnme
TheRemixGeneration I would say underrated in terms of charting success and general awareness of her work in the culture. It seems that websites like Pitchfork have picked up on how great these singles are, but they’re not getting played on the radio. (Although to be fair, I’m American; I believe she’s generally found more success in Europe)
