Waterfall
R.Rose Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Chimes sing Sunday morn
Today's the day she's sworn
To steal what she never could own
And race from this hole she calls home

Now you're at the wheel
Tell me how how does it feel
So good to have equalized
To lift up the lids of your eyes

As the miles they disappear
See land begin to clear
Free from the filth and the scum
This American satellite's won

She'll carry on through it all
She's a waterfall

She'll carry on through it all
She's a waterfall

See the steeple pine
The hills as old as time
Soon to be put to the test
To be whipped by the winds of the west

Stands on shifting sands
The scales held in her hands
The wind it just whips her and wails
And fills up her brigatine sails

She'll carry on through it all
She's a waterfall

She'll carry on through it all
She's a waterfall

Overall Meaning

"Waterfall" by R.Rose portrays the story of a girl who longs to leave her hometown behind and make a new life for herself. She has "sworn" to steal what she never owned, indicating her desire to create a future for herself through her own efforts. As she prepares to leave, she is excited and curious to know how it feels to take control of her own destiny. She has finally equalized and can lift up the lids of her eyes to see the world in a new light.

As she drives away, the miles disappear, and the land opens up before her. The filth and scum she associates with her hometown fade away as she becomes free from their hold. She is like a satellite that has finally broken free and won its autonomy. As she makes her way towards the unknown, she is determined to carry on through it all like a waterfall, falling and rushing forward in a relentless flow.

The steeple pine and the hills represent the coming challenges she is set to face as she leaves her comfort zone. She knows that the winds of the west will whip the hills and test her strength. She stands on shifting sands, holding the scales of her destiny and facing the wind that wails and fills up her brigantine sails. Through it all, she carries on like a waterfall, falling and rushing forward without looking back.
