Ron Ron's crossover appeal is obvious but it wasn't always that way. He faced two counts of first-degree murder related to the killing of two men outside a Kansas City liquor store - with the threat of life in prison and the death penalty. A not-guilty verdict in the summer of 2007 gave him a chance to pursue music.
Following a year in prison awaiting trial and months under house-arrest after posting bail, the acquittal gave Ron Ron the chance, with God as a guide, to eschew the past hood mentality - which he admits included carrying a gun, a sense of paranoia, a dislike for others and propensity to do "ignorant ****".
He started rapping over cassette recordings of radio songs during middle school as part of an itinerant childhood with his mother, a FEMA worker. Ron Ron returned to Kansas City at 14 to attend high school and grow up in the "50s" neighbourhood where Fat Tone and Tech N9ne also grew up.
In 2008, local emcee The Popper reminded Ron Ron "You're too tight not to do this rap ****". The Hey Honey breakout and a series of cult mixtapes followed, with his funny, playful, articulate and street-wise persona earning regular duties opening up for major artists touring KC.

(Ohh ohh ohh ohh)
(Ohh ohh ohh ohh)
Yeah
Once upon a time a nigga who just wanted shit to change
Took a step away from niggas just to try to make a
Change
Girl can you hear me our love remain the same
Look how far a nigga came
Thru the thunder and the rain
Never switch up on the gang
Pray i never go insane
On these beats i go insane
Music take away the pain
Want the money cause i need it like i need you
(So I'm)
Uh calling
I'm calling (i be calling)
For you baby i don't mind falling
Uh calling
I'm calling
For you baby i don't mind falling
Girl can you hear me
I'm trying to make a change
Girl can you hear me
Our love should never change
Thru the storm thru the rain
Money take away the pain
Hope our love forever here
Could Never switch up on the gang
Girl can you hear me
I'm trying to make a change
Girl can you hear me
Our love should never change
Thru the storm thru the rain
Money take away the pain
Hope our love forever here
Could Never switch up on the gang (gang)
Calling i'm calling
For you baby i don't mind falling
I'm calling, i'm calling
For you baby i don't mind falling
The lyrics to RON RONβs song Change express a bittersweet sentiment of acceptance and farewell towards a relationship that has come to an end. The beginning verse acknowledges the pain and sorrow of the separation, but encourages the listener to look forward to the future with optimism and gratitude for the time spent together. The second verse takes a more intimate approach, as the singer invites their former partner to lay their head on their pillow and reminisce on the past with fondness.
The chorus βLay your head upon my pillow, Hold your warm and tender body close to mine, Hear the whisper of the rain drops, Blowing soft against the window, And make believe you love me one more time, For the good timesβ is perhaps the most heart-wrenching part of the song. It showcases the singerβs longing for a final moment of intimacy and connection before the relationship comes to an end.
The final verse is a mixture of acceptance and reassurance towards the one leaving, as the singer knows that life goes on and that they will be here in case their former partner ever needs them again. The overall message of the song is one that is both sorrowful and hopeful, as the singer recognizes the pain of the present but looks forward to the future with acceptance and optimism.

Don't look so sad
Do not look sad
I know it's over
I understand it's ended
But life goes on
Despite an end, life keeps moving
And this old world will keep on turning
The world goes on and time does not stop
Let's just be glad
We should be happy
We had some time to spend together
We spent some time enjoying each other's company
There's no need to watch the bridges
There is no need to hold on to grudges
That were burning
That no longer exist
Lay your head upon my pillow
Rest your head on my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body
Embrace your intimate and affectionate self
Close to mine
Near me
Hear the whisper of the rain drops
Listen to the sound of the rain drops
Blowing soft against the window
Gently touching the window
And make believe you love me
Act as if you love me
One more time
Just once more
For the good times
As a memory of the good times
I'll get along
I will cope
You'll find another
You will find someone else
And I'll be here
I will be here
If you should find you ever need me
If you ever require my help
Don't say a word about tomorrow
Do not think about the future
Or forever
Or what happens in the long term
There'll be time enough for sadness
There will be time later to be sad
When you leave me
After you are gone
