Roses
RPWL feat. Ray Wilson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If the world is one big plan
Why must we lose our innocence
Why have we lost our paradise?
Paralysed. nothing to give

The chestnut vender in the rain
Haven't seen him since I moved away
Please tell me what I'm doing here
These strangers do not speak to me

All the things I tried to do
I never thought it was too late
So in this silence say a prayer
For the one who went away

Roses, are covering your face
And with my mind I'm calling out for you
But all that's left are
Roses, covering your face
And with my mind I'm calling out for you
But you cannot hear me

The rising spirit of the new
I can look through the windows of their minds
Why should we care about the means
Our last goal is to reach the end

All the things I tried to do
I never thought it was too late
So in this silence say a prayer
For the one who went away

Roses, are covering your face
And with my mind I'm calling out for
You but all that's left are
Roses, covering your face
And with my mind I'm calling out for you
But you cannot hear me

You said don't tell me we can take our time
So I hope that we will meet again

Sheltered in your faith you made me understand
But now what's left is hidden under ...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of RPWL feat. Ray Wilson's song "Roses" express a sense of loss and confusion, as the singer grapples with questions of innocence and paradise. The opening lines suggest a belief in a predetermined world plan, but the resulting loss of innocence and paralysis implies a deep disappointment with the way things have turned out. The mention of a chestnut vender in the rain and strangers who do not speak to the singer evoke feelings of dislocation and isolation. There is a sense of a search for meaning and connection, as the singer tries to make sense of all the things they have tried to do, but finds it is never too late to do more. The image of roses covering a face is both beautiful and poignant, evoking both love and loss. The final lines suggest a hope for a reunion, but also a feeling of something hidden or unresolved.

Overall, the lyrics of "Roses" are rich in emotional detail and imagery, inviting the listener to reflect on their own experiences of loss and hope.

No matter what anyone says about the accents, vocal ranges or anything else about this song, it doesn't take away how much I enjoy listening to this song. That's why music works. It's a personal experience.

@gtrsuite

After listening to this song for the 100th time, I just realized this a is about someone who has died..."so in this silence say a prayer for the ones who went away" and..."Roses...and in my mind, I'm calling out for you, but you can not hear me...." Trying to accept death for someone who you love, very powerful song. The music so very powerful in its approach but add the meaning of the lyrics, and its that much more powerful.

@MightyDazza1

The song is a about the last time I saw my loved one after she was killed by peadophiles, I could not look at her anymore so I covered her face with the petals of roses.

What a performance! Plain perfection! The instrumental are so harmonious with Ray's voice. I guess that's what heaven sounds like.

@musicdoc8746

I think Genesis was wrong to ditch Ray after 1 album/ tour. I actually like him better than Phil of that period.

@marcosbaptista
