Having always cringed at the term "singer-songwriter," Rachel begun collaborating early on. She started her first band 7 Hands Down at thirteen, and went on to play in the band Myna during college. Once composing and arranging songs began to take up all of her time, she decided to apply to music school and was accepted into the competitive Studio Composition program at SUNY Purchase. She has appeared on recordings with musicians such as Toby Goodshank, Arms and Legs, Kyle Gilbride, Apse, Kiss Kiss, and more. After graduating from the conservatory with a Bachelor of Music, her plans to record her first full-length record began to materialize. She is currently in the dream pop band Field Mouse, which she co-founded with guitarist and producer Andrew Futral. They are releasing their debut album Hold Still Life on July 22, 2014 through Topshelf Records.
Take Off
Rachel Browne Lyrics

Go to sleep but never tell
Anyway, why would you?
Anyway, why would you?
I feel nothing today
But that won't stop your plane
I don't feel anything at all
Let's hold hands
The distance held onto
Wasn't feeling strong to
And knew that it was wrong to
They peddle truth on the side of the road
"He'll probably come back but you'll
Both be alone"
Woke up on another day
And found he'd been asleep
For longer than she'd wait
And longer than he'd stay
Wish I loved anyone
Cause then I'd tell all truths
Hit the road together,
Laugh at all my jokes
Loved each other in their minds
Go to sleep but never tell
Anyway, why would you?
Anyway, why would you?
Anyway, why would you?
I feel nothing today
But that won't stop your plane
The lyrics in Rachel Browne's song "Take Off" are a reflection on a relationship that exists only in the minds of the two parties involved. The individuals "loved each other in their minds," but never expressed their feelings to one another. It's unclear why they never shared their emotions, but the repetition of the phrase "Anyway, why would you?" suggests that fear or uncertainty held them back.
Throughout the song, there's a sense of distance and disconnection between the two. The distance was "held onto," but the singer acknowledges that it wasn't a strong enough bond. They knew it was wrong to hold onto something that never really existed in the first place. The lyrics also touch on the idea of missed opportunities and the regret that can come from being too afraid to take risks.
The final verse shifts the perspective slightly, as the singer expresses a desire to love someone and share all truths with them. The lyrics end on a somewhat ambiguous note with the line "I feel nothing today but that won't stop your plane," leaving the listener to wonder if the two individuals will ever truly connect.
