Radiohead and Michael Stipe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wanna use strengths, then I get bored
So give me one of
Those little broadway machines
I just wanna be like
Darlin', tellin' me more about you
Tell me more about you
Dirty little Russian doll

Use the ones that come with
The Germans and chains
We used your little package and never again
But any chance you'd call, try the telephone
How come me well, leave me alone
Well I tried, don't you see, and I tried
And it's been a drag so leave me alone
(Argh, Argh)

Try your little pants on and come inside
They won't wanna tell you what I really mean
They said you couldn't be with my telephone
I just I want your sleazy bum
And I doubt that he'll get a

Job, will he get a job, will he get a job?
And is it just a chance to down his phone?

Overall Meaning

The song "Leave" by Radiohead and Michael Stipe talks about the feeling of being scatterbrained and disoriented in life. The roof is pulling off by its fingernails, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. The lyrics also talk about yesterday's people and headlines, highlighting the impermanence and fleeting nature of events in life.

The chorus "Scatterbrain, any fool can, easy pick a hole (I only wish I could fall in)" emphasizes the feeling of being scatterbrained and disoriented, with the singer wishing for an escape or a place to rest. The lyrics "A moving target in a firing range, somewhere I'm not" further add to the feeling of being lost and vulnerable.

I remember first hearing the album version the day I bought the album, the day it came out. The first R.E.M. album that I bought, as a fan, as soon as it came out. It actually blew me away. And I remember my Dad hearing it and loving it and loving it, too. ❤

Underrated album, underrated song!

@StratsRUs

Top top album

@reillydon

@@StratsRUs every track on it is a masterpiece

@Eluwilussit

Well, certainly this album was not as big as "Out of time" or "Automatic for the people" but still, it did quite well in sales and in charts, I checked... and millions of people love this album... R.e.m. is a huge band who made millions and millions of dollars... and I don't think "underrated" can apply to anything r.e.m.... If you want to call something "underrated" go find a great album that sold only a few hundred copies... there's lots and lots of stuff like that

@reillydon

@@Eluwilussit it is generally cited among fans and critics alike an underrated album as far as REM go! as it didn’t sell as well but did chart here in the uk at number 1 also the singles from the album didn’t chart or sell well but over all most agree the album is one of their best, just take one of 12 online topics on this being underrated I’ve found online in the last 20 minutes -

R.E.M. released their most underrated album. New Adventures In Hi-Fi came out in what was a slightly transitional period for R.E.M. They had achieved ‘biggest band in the world’ status with Out Of Time and Automatic For The People, the latter still regarded by many (myself included) as their absolute masterpiece (or one of them, at least). Commercially they were at the top of their game, selling millions of copies of each without even touring either album (apart from a few acoustic shows for Out Of Time, usually under the name Bingo Hand Job), critically, they were untouchable, with both albums being lauded as defining albums of the era.

@schnu44

This is my favorite track on NAIHF. If the original version was 90 seconds shorter I have to believe it would be a classic R.E.M. song
