Wolves
Rag N Bone Man Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't wanna drown no more
I'm sick of the same old people
The kind that'll sell your soul
Trade it for a shining stone
Ain't nothing in this life for free
Running from the greatest evil
It finally dawned on me
A man's gotta fight temptation

Keep the wolves from the door
I hear them scratching like I don't know better
Won't you keep the wolves from the door
It won't be long before I cave in and open up the

And I don't wanna go back home
Too many staring faces
Wishing they could drag me down
Waiting to pull me under
I've shaken off my chains
But I still feel those shackles
Living inside of me
I know I've gotta fight temptation

Keep the wolves from the door
I hear them scratching like I don't know better
Won't you keep the wolves from the door
It won't be long before I cave in and open up the

Yo, money's short like my temper
But the bills still keep on coming
Staying on the grind January till December
Tryna lace this beats on a shoestring budget
Rent's due so I'm raiding the copper jar
Hard on the hustle for the sterling
Going all out, Putting work in
It's an uphill struggle but I'm working
I was homeless, having to sleep rough
On the streets feeling like I need to be drunk
I'm tryna turn grass roots to a tree trunk
When the man are only in it for the free lunch
See us we only deal with the real stuff
Brother, 'cause all that glitters ain't gold
Plus, I can hear the wolves outside my door
But money can't buy my soul, no

Keep the wolves from the door
I hear them scratching like I don't know better
Won't you keep the wolves from the door
It won't be long before I cave in and open up the

Keep the wolves from the door
I hear them scratching like I don't know better

Won't you keep the wolves from the door
It won't be long before I cave in and open up the door

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Rag N Bone Man's song "Wolves" tell a story of a person who has had enough of being drowned in negativity and the same old people who are ready to "sell your soul" at any moment. The lines, "Ain't nothing in this life for free / Running from the greatest evil", point out that there is always a price to pay for everything and that people should fight against the temptation to give in to it. The metaphor of "wolves at the door" represents the negative thoughts and people constantly scratching at the surface, trying to drag the person down.

The singer expresses his desire to stay away from the people who want to bring him down and not to return home because of the negative energy. The lyrics "Waiting to pull me under / I've shaken off my chains / But I still feel those shackles / Living inside of me" explain that the person has freed themselves from their past, but the past still haunts them.

The verse by rapper Logic emphasizes the struggles of everyday life, trying to make ends meet and achieving success while keeping true to oneself. He goes on to highlight that even though the wolves are at the door, and money is tight, his soul is priceless, and he is in control of his life.

Overall, the song speaks about fighting against negative thoughts, people, and situations. It encourages the listener to keep the wolves from the door and not give in to temptation, as the true value lies within.

how many people have had that expierence where you start to get tired of the music you always listen to and nothing interests you anymore but you cant find any new music that grabs your attention so you keep playing the same old songs anyway for lack of a better option, and this goes on anywhere from a few days to months and then theres that one magical moment where you find new music that is fantastic? well i was just like that and then i decided to check out this artists other work besides human, and its like fuckin christmas morning.
