Innocent
Rage Lyrics

She saw her fate when she was dreaming
Why? Such a young girl did no crime
And then his bony hand came reaching
"Young girl, I'll be your guide, we're leaving
Now, it's the end of all your time."
Save me! She saw the ashes of her life, so innocent
"You must let me go, please forsake me
Won't someone help me or just wake me
I don't deserve this early end."
"This life ain't fair, that's not the meaning
I'm only here to help, believe me
And I am mercy, heaven sent."
Save me! And in her dreams she had to face her very end
Save me! She saw the ashes of her life, so fragile
She saw the ashes of her life, so innocent
She started crying like a baby
Screamed for her mother, cursed the day of birth
But the reaper took her hand
Save me! And in her dreams she had to face her very end
Save me! She saw the ashes of her life, so fragile
She saw the ashes of her life, so innocent
The lyrics to Rage's song Innocent depict a young girl who has a nightmare, in which a bony hand reaches out to her and tells her it's the end of her time. The girl is terrified and pleads to be saved, but the hand continues to convince her that he is mercy, heaven-sent. The girl tries to resist, asking someone to wake her up or help her, but it seems as though no one is coming to her rescue. She cries out for her mother and curses the day of her birth, but ultimately she takes the hand of the reaper and faces her very end, seeing the ashes of her life.
The lyrics suggest a tragic ending for the young girl, who is innocent and has committed no crime. The hand that reaches out to her represents death, which is an inevitable fate for all. The girl's fear and desperation can be felt through the lyrics, as she pleads to be saved, but ultimately has to face her end alone. The bittersweet nature of the song is captured in the repetition of "save me", which is both a cry for help and a resigned acceptance of her fate.
Overall, Innocent is a haunting and powerful song that explores the fear and inevitability of death. The lyrics are emotive and the use of repetition and metaphor create a strong sense of foreboding.
