Said i need some God in my life
Anotha said i gotta go to work
Like i Need a job in my life
I be workin every single day doe
Only got the homies on the pay roll
Do this for all the Johnny and Jane Does
We got the Same Goals, Yea we got the Same Goals
That street life so suspect
Neva knowin, whats next
But i gotta get it right, so i confess
I gotta let em know .. how I neva thought I'd be
Anybody that people foreva callin me
They wonder how'd i get this, comin up from the kick flips
They wonder how I made it off of the island of the misfits
Its NOT a golden ticket, its NOT a silver spoon
If I wanna have it all, then i GOTTA give it to u
Ayeeee
Mama told me gotta go to church
Said i need some God in my life
Anotha said i gotta go to work,
Like i Need a job in my life
I be workin every single day doe
Only got the homies on the pay roll
Do this for all the Johnny and Jane Does
We got the Same Goal, yea we got the same goals
10 days for that 1 check
Clockin out but ain't done yet
From livin out of a trashbag to
Hotels and that 1 jet
Hackey sack in the hallways
Back to backin the wrong way
Day dreamin in math class
Now I'm backpackin down broadway
These people comin at me
I know inside they aint happy
They buyin somethin flashy
All they had to DO was ask me
I tell em why I do this
You see The truth is
You come up with a come up
Or u come up with excuses
Ayeeeee
Mama told me gotta go to church,
Said i need some God in my life
Anotha said i gotta go to work,
Like i Need a job in my life
I be workin every single day doe
Only got the homies on the pay roll
Do this for all the Johnny and Jane Does
We got the Same Goal, yea we got the same goals
The lyrics of Rain's song "Same" delve into the artist's personal journey and struggles, as well as his motivations and aspirations in life. The song opens with a reference to the artist's mother advising him to go to church to find spiritual guidance and another person telling him to focus on work and securing a job. This juxtaposition highlights the different paths and influences pulling at the artist, emphasizing the importance of both spiritual and material aspects in his life.
The repetition of the lines "I be workin every single day doe, Only got the homies on the pay roll" reflects the artist's dedication to his craft and the support he receives from his friends. He mentions doing this for all the "Johnny and Jane Does," suggesting that he is driven to succeed not just for himself but for common individuals who share his aspirations and dreams. The phrase "We got the Same Goals, Yea we got the Same Goals" underscores the idea of unity and collective ambition among like-minded individuals.
As the lyrics progress, Rain reminisces about his past struggles and humble beginnings, from living out of a trash bag to now traveling in hotels and on private jets. The reference to playing hackey sack in the hallways and daydreaming in math class evokes a sense of nostalgia and highlights the artist's journey from a carefree youth to a determined and focused individual striving for success.
The closing lines of the song emphasize the importance of hard work, perseverance, and self-belief in achieving one's dreams. Rain addresses the misconception that success comes easily or is handed to individuals through privileges like a golden ticket or a silver spoon. He asserts that to truly achieve greatness and have it all, one must be willing to put in the effort and give their all. The song carries a message of resilience, determination, and staying true to oneself despite the challenges and doubts that may come along the way.
