City Of Cold
Raised Fist Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We live in the city of cold.
And even though I have to admit, that sometimes we love to spit on it.
But I would take a million bullets for it, the centre of this story.

And when I quit, to commit to the pit.
And when I’ve stopped to transmit, bury me in a hole under my favourite tree.
Wait a bit, say goodbye, put a fucking lid on it and split.
We live in the cit y of cold, strangely enough we’re proud of it.
When at home burning the flag, when away living in a bag.
Getting mad, feeling sad.

City of cold,
on with the shoeshine.
Stepping on those fucking toes, now and forever.
The city of cold where you can't grow old.

And when I quit to commit to the pit.
And when I've stopped to transmit, bury me in a fucking hole,
wait a bit, say goodbye and off you go.

We live in the cit y of snow.
So small and cold , five hundred years old .
No stories untold, no one is in control .
Sounds cute I know, small city with snow, one street, no flow.

And even though I mostly hate the snow,
now and forever, it 's better then hating people I don't even know.

And even if you want your own fame to grow,
I wouldn’t talk shit about people I don't even know.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Raised Fist's song "City of Cold" describe the band's attachment to their hometown, despite its flaws. The first verse acknowledges that the city can be cold and unwelcoming, but nonetheless the singer feels a deep attachment to it and would do anything to protect it. The second verse confronts mortality, with the singer stating that when they die, they want to be buried in a hole under their favorite tree. The bridge of the song is a call and response between the band and the listener, with the band repeating the affirmation that they are proud of their city.

The chorus shifts focus to the singer's experience of the city, with the lyrics describing a place where people are always on edge and there is a constant pressure to succeed. However, despite the challenges, the singer feels a sense of loyalty to the city and is willing to defend it. The final verse speaks directly to the themes of isolation and community that run throughout the song. The singer acknowledges that their hometown may be small and provincial, but ultimately they prefer living in a place like that to being disconnected from their roots.

Overall, "City of Cold" is a song about the complicated relationship people have with their hometowns. Despite its flaws, the singer feels a deep loyalty to their city and would do anything to protect it.
